Not a good situation i find myself in and for once i feel not of my own making.
I sit here nursing a damaged right hand with swollen knuckles and a gash at the top of a finger.
I went out for my normal mid day dog walk around 1.30pm. Whilst walking past a house a dog came out of a front garden and attacked my dog which Was on a lead. The dogs went for it at my feet and not wanting to put my hand in i just let fly with one big kick. Not aimed at either dog just a separating stop the fighting kick. I hit the other dog and it went flying off and the fight stopped. Sorted i thought.
Anyway no sooner had i kicked out when the guy whose dog it was came flying out the garden screaming YOU kicked my dog and started throwing punches at me.
So i stepped back and made him miss and give him a good jab which made him step back a bit. He wasn't happy and flew into a rage lashing out again.
Instinct took over and i gave him two almighty right hooks connecting better than i would have liked to be honest. My hand was smashed and pouring with blood and damage was immediete to his face.
He was odviously concussed and his wife had come out shouting at him to leave it.
Anyway i walked off nursing my damaged hand and trying to stop the bleeding.
Coming back home i felt terrible even though i was doing nothing more than defending myself i took No pleasure at all in hitting him. I had no choice what so ever apart from roll up on the floor and take a kicking because i kicked his dog to stop both dogs fighting.
My dog is a staffy and if i had let him he would have ripped his dog to bits which is something i could Not let happen. Kicking the pair of them stopped the fight immedietly and as my dog was fully under control i really feel he is to blame for the whole incident.
Of course now i sit here waiting to see if i will be arrested for assault and there is the stress.
I have had a very chequered past but have been out of trouble for over ten years now and through no fault of my own i am drawn back into this crappy scene.
I rang the coppers and a P.C came round to hear my story and to be directed to the house. I wanted someone to let me know if the guy was alright.
We went round in the cop car and i pointed out the house but after the PC knocked we found knowone in. PC reckons there was a lot of blood on the pavement and he has probably gone to hospital. :(
What's worrying for me is although he attacked me and i only defended myself and did hold back on the damage i inflicted i know the punches i landed were Very heavy and damaging.
All this over a dog fight. I really can't understand him attacking me as i am fairly big and there really was no need. I can only put it down to him having a very bad temper and just losing control.
The PC put a note through the door letting him know it had been reported and giving him the oppurtunity to respond.
All i can hope is that he knows he was in the wrong and just lets it go.
Why did he attack me i hate being violent i really messed up his face even though i only hit him a couple of times.

Anyway i would appreciate your thoughts on the matter and please no glory posts.
I do not feel bad for what i have done as it was Completely self defence but i take no pleasure in inflicting injury deserved or not.

Ouch...I'd hate to be the guy picking bits of keyboard out of his face tonight...

Its not bits of keyboard he will be picking out.

My mouse hand an all. :(

Seems to me like you acted in self defence, at the end of the day its going to be your word against his and I doubt anything will happen from it. In my opinion you did the right thing, I can understand him being upset about seeing his dog get kicked but to fly in fists first seems a bit OTT. Also the fact that you reported it shows you in a good light, don’t worry about it.

Next time palm strike! Hope the hands ok.

You kicked at the dogs to stop the fight, not aiming for any particular one. - I don't see anything wrong with that. It worked. You showed concern for the other dog because you know your own dog could inflict serious damage on it.

The guy runs out at you for kicking his dog and starts a fight with you. You hit back in self defence, and only hit him to the point where he stops attacking you. You don't go overboard. - Again I don't see anything wrong with that.

You did the right thing contacting the police, at least they'll have your story should the other guy decide to do anything. It will reflect you in a better light although the other guy was in the wrong. You shouldn't feel so bad, I'm sure the other guy is feeling like a royal ***** now.

Did you see the guy as the dogs were fighting? Was he making his way towards you to try and help you stop it?

Depending on how chequered your past is, and how messed up his face is, I reckon you'll be fine. He's over reacted and you've done well by getting to the Filth first. Hopefully he's big enough to take this as a lesson learned and doesn't try and take it further.

I've had to do this before too, it's annoying when you're walking your dog on the leader and some stray comes from nowhere wanting to scrap. The one's I've encountered have just been roaming the streets rather than with anyone, can't help feeling sorry for them though especially in the winter.

Phone the old bill and get them involved he struck you first after his dog attacked yours. self defence. Done deal. Also the police should investigate as to see if the owner of the animal is capable and responsable enugh to have the animal.!!

I don't condone what you did, but if I saw someone kick my dog I'd have flipped too. If I saw my dog attacking the other dog, I wouldn't have been happy that my dog was kicked, but at least I would understand and I wouldn't attack the person because of it. If someone just kicked my dog for the sake of it, I'd have reacted in kind.
Maybe he didn't realise his dog had attacked your own and thought you'd just kicked it? If that is the case, it explains his actions.
If he saw his dog attack yours and still decided to launch an assault on you, that just makes him a right royal ***** (rhymes with stick :p).

You're not in the wrong here mate, you didn't use more force than was needed and you seperated the dogs with good intent. Personally, I think the other guy was an idiot for not talking to you first instead of just attacking you.

Let us know if he responds to that notice.

Have you been done for assault (or similar) in the past? Either way I don't think anything will come of it anyway :)

Why was his dog loose in the first place? It is his responsibility as an owner to keep it from attacking anything, not yours. You acted in self-defence, and did the right thing to report the incident to the police. He attacked you, and I'd expect him to need a very good reason for doing so before the police charged you for anything.

Its pretty natural that you will feel bad. But I don't think you had any choice. Chances are this guy won't go wading into somebody again.

You acted in self defence, hope your hand heals up.

Well done, I can't stand irresponsible owners.

A big dog attacked my little border terrier in the park some time back. It shook her around while my mum struggled to get it off and the other owner didn't do/say anything and walked off, ****.

He attacked you.

You defended yourself.

He came off worse-off.

End of story mate. He'd be pretty retarded to try to get the police on you, considering it was him who instigated the whole fight in the first place.
