File Explorer not responding

Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you had come across this fault before.

Basically, when I click on file explorer or try to open any folder (or even if I was trying to save an image from a website), the window opens but it takes about 30-40 seconds to do anything. If I try to click in the window it says not responding..
A weird thing is that I can open the first window, knowing that I cant use it..but then open a separate folder to then navigate my way into where I wanted to go.

I just don't get it!

I got the trial version of AVG PC TUNE UP and its telling me there are over 600 issues to be fixed....is this true or are AVG just as bad for selling you their product in a scare tactic way?

Any help would be awesome, ive tried the microsoft Q&A but cant find anything on the issue.

Thanks

Your file explorer is hanging because of some other software you have running/installed. Commonly anything that has 'shell integration' or adds new stuff to right click menus.

The '600 errors' warning from the tune-up software is a scam to get morons to use their tools.

Can you give any examples of any software that might be causing it.

Point taken about AVG... 1 x moron

Yashiro,

Just wanted to say thanks for putting it so bluntly and simply.

I downloaded a program to tell me how many shell extensions or integrations were in use and I deleted ALL of the crap...low and behold. File explorer is working again.

Thank man.

Glad you fixed it. The most useful app for this type of issue is 'Autoruns' by Sysinternals. Simply load it up and check for stuff under the \Run\ section at the top and the \ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ sections about half way down.

That's the program I downloaded actually. Very easy to use.
