File Recovery! Help!!

I have just put in my backup drive that I havent used for a while and it seems someone has formatted the HFS partiotion with an NTFS file system.

The disk wont mount on the mac full stop, but I can get it to read in windows - now I have no idea about file recovery, but do you think I have a hope in hell of getting anything back!?

Any help would be appreciated, there are some pictures on there of my friend that passed away that his parents have asked for and I'd hate to disappoint them.

When you plug it into Windows, there is nothing on there right?

Try TestDisk which is free.

Would 'Recuva' work, I have use it to recover files & photos, when my 3 year old formated my drive.

If you find any files to recover remember to recover them to a different drive.

If you try and recover them to the same drive you'll be overwriting the files you're trying to recover.

And isn't it the point of a backup drive that the files on it will also be somewhere else anyway?

Will also not be using a drive with an ntfs and an hfs partition ever again, time to buy a small drive for my windows needs!
