File recovery software

I've never used to use this type of software, however since Multistage Recovery came free on GAotD I gave it a whirl.

Not bad, and has recovered what I've needed it to. However I need to reformat my machine and I don't I can continue to use the GAotD offer.

What free ones are recommended? Recuva's popular, and I see Soft Perfect's one too in the utilities thread.

Recuva has always worked well for me, never needed anything else.

I've used getdataback, the ntfs version, with reasonable success. As long as the user hasn't kept on using the drive after deleting the file it does well. If the data has already been overwritten it doesn't cope, don't think it would deal well with a reformat either.

Can't say I put much effort into choosing it, and I've heard good things about Recuva.
