File Server in Azure

SMB is quite chatty, so your performance over a WAN isn't going to be great. What do you want to use it for?

Replacing all onsite hosts and SAN's but looking into azure and seeing what I can put up there. I tested their SMB share service, but this didn't work out. Any time I search for a file server in azure I am brought back to is their file share smb 3.0 service.

Just wanted some real world thoughts on it.

I'd get a local NAS -- I am completely over using Windows Server as file servers. Dedicated NAS units are so much better in so many ways. If you have a remote site you could get something with built-in replication, otherwise backup to Azure?
