File transfer problem

I am using windows vista ultimat x64 and have 2 hard drives in my pc, 1 500gig sata and a 1tb sata. Evertime i go to copy a large file lets say 4 gig file to the 1tb sata drive its says the file is to large for the destination file system. I have never had this problem before and i have 623gig of free space on the drive so it can't be that.

Is the target drive formatted as NTFS? If not then this will be the cause of the problem.

As above, it may be formatted in fat32 which won't allow such big files

Ya its fat 32, How can i convert to ntfs and can it be converted withou losing my files on the drive.

you can use the command in a command prompt:

"convert D: /fs:ntfs" without the quotes, obviously substitute the letter D with whatever your drive is ...

It would be much safer to backup all of the files on there, and do a full format with NTFS so you're starting from fresh ...

Get a 500GB drive ... Sainsbury's were knocking out 500gbe xternal drives for £19.99 last week ... they went in about 5 mins but you'll pick one up cheap on eBay now
