File types for media center edition

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows what file types (i.e Divx, Xvid, Mov) that xp media center is compatible with as i want to convert some of my dvd's to smaller files but also need then to play on my xbox 360 through media center.

AFAIK, you can only play windows media and maybe mpeg2 through the 360 as a media centre extender.
However, XPMCE itself will play virtually anything you throw at it.

That depends entirely on the displays resolution. Assuming that the tft is a tv and not a monitor or something then chances are 1366x768P. Unfortunatley microsoft only allows playback of wmv and mpeg2 on the 360 :rolleyes:

So if you want decent compression you'll want to convert the dvds to xvid/nero aac/x.264/vp7 and then use one of those programs to recompress the videos to mpeg2 on the fly.

cool, how do i get it to recompress it on the fly would i need to install a 3rd party software on the xbox?
