Hey guys,

Used fileplanet off and on over the years, so I recently decided to re-do a sub with them to download some demos and updates etc...

Its soooooooooooooooooo friggin slow? 40k/bps if that?

I thought I had the basic account, so upgraded to the annual one, and paid upfront.

Is this how they have become? Take money, offer crap speeds? :(

If so, they've had yet another 'sucker'

scratch that, getting 180kbps with the COD4 demo....noticed there are no european mirrors at the FP site for this file...that's probably the reason.

I reckon their servers are getting raped for the COD4 demo.

Thats no excuse tho, they're making enough money to pay for the best of server equipment, and more of them, frankly. My COD download has been bouncing between 60 and 400kbps.

Not good enough for a charged service.

And while I'm ranting, their website is a mess, fileplanet, gamespy etc. It all badly needs consolidation.

Same problem here, for months now my speeds have ben totally crap even on uk servers. I dunno what theyve done or virgin media have done but somethings really killing the dload speeds.

The shameful fact is... they can't handle the bandwidth. Which is pretty shocking considering they are a "paid for" service and they still can't handle the load .

Gamershell on the other hand entirely free funded by what seems the same amount of ads as on fileplanet yet these guys always manage to sort enough servers out and I ALWAYS get decent speed from there. Put's Fileplanet to shame.

Fileplanet gets away with all this as it flashes it cash made by IGN/Subscribers at developers to bag exclusive beta periods yet when the demand comes they can rarely handle it. Total farce really but there you go.

My connection will always max out on the UK servers from fileplanet, the Us servers are a bit hit or miss, sometimes they will max out at others it will be around 100kb/s

I tried my mates FP account tonight and got 400kb/s and it wasnt steady but then used multiplay ftp and got 700kb/s solid.

Not worth the subscription payment I dont think.

The problem happened maybe 2 weeks ago now, when I resigned up using the $3.30 a month option and immediately started to download DiRT...

Never gave it a thought, and canceled the download.

Its not until now that I actually need a few massive patches that again its failing badly...

But they have now got me as I decided to 'upgrade' to pay an annual fee, instead of per month; which basically doesn't upgrade ANYTHING since I re-read it all :(

$29.99 = i fail.

I can understand there being mega-load as its the COD4 demo etc, but it were the same two weeks ago...

I've switched off the Firewall as suggested, emptied cookies and uninstalled their download software...but ALL to no avail same now @ 40kbps but mostly less :(

I was having problems trying to get the CoD4 demo last night, at points 30kbps max.

But then I installed the Fileplanet Download Manager, and maxed out at 10MB instantly. Might be worth installing if you're getting horrible speeds.

I have had pretty bad speeds from fileplanet lately. Mostly the uk servers are fine (1MB/s+) but other times even the uk ones are more like 50KB/s - or of course non-existant.
Am on virgin as well.

I can't even get onto Fileplanet's subscriber download servers - every time I try after logging in, it sends me back to the subscription page!:(

I've tried all their FAQ suggestions (cookies, firewall, etc.), but with no success. Frustrating paying for a service you can't use!!!

Anyone else had a similar problem?
