Hey guys,

Got a really strange problem here, I basically changed the order of some directories around on my RAID array and now I don't get any video on from any of my video files, I'm only getting audio. The video files play fine when being played by another PC on the network though. If I move the directories back to their original locations the files work fine

The ONLY thing that has changed on my PC is the location of the video file folders so this has to be the cause, however I have no idea what to do. The Array has been through many different OS installations if that makes any difference. I'm currently running as an Admin account (Not the super Admin account).

In VLC I looked at the log to see what was happening and when I play a video file I get this:-

'direct3d error: Could not create the D3D device! (hr=0x8876086A)
direct3d error: cannot initialize Direct3D
main error: video output creation failed
main error: failed to create video output'

Any advice on what's gone wrong/screwed everything up?

Cheers.

Edit:- They broke again, and now even restoring the directories to the original locations won't work. Yet in other user accounts on the PC they play fine :/

I really don't want to have reformat it :(

Hmm try copying (not moving) the files to a different partition from the OS one if you can. (You can then delete the originals if you want)
I know it doesn't sound like a permission thing but..
Then check their permissions and make sure everybody (you want to) has access and there are no 'block access' overriding that.
Then try playing them with VLC again.

Alternatively, try running VLC with administrative priviliges - perhaps more important!

Doesn't sound like a permissions issue, have you tried to reinstall codecs?

Yeah, I have tried reinstalling both VLC and Winamp and my codec packages.

When running VLC with admin privileges it makes no difference, and I can't copy the files else where since I have an OS drive and then my RAID array, which is on 1TB drives in RAID 1 :/

I'm pretty sure that they aren't blocked either.

Pretty sure it isn't that since I'm running Win 7 64 and they aren't located on a OS drive but on my Data array.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, such a pita that it's still messing around. I'll reinstall Win 7 64 later, and see what happens.

Thanks :)

Not even a flash drive you could at least test it on? Or test on a different PC or something? Reinstalling seems like quite a drastic step :p

When I copied one video file, it played fine on the flash drive. I have everything pre-downloaded so it takes about 45 mins :p

And if you copy back from the flash drive onto your array and then try?
That fails, I'm out of clues, so good luck.

^^ Just tried that, and it's still a no go :(

Cheers for the advice, I'll report back when I've installed again.
