Fill it or put boards over it?

Hi,

After moving house, we emptied a brick pond that the previous owners had.
Because we've got young children, we decided it was safer to remove the water risk.

So, now we have a large brick construction with an empty hole in the middle.

I'd like to put a water feature on there instead. So that its not a pond, but just has moving water going round and round some kind of statue.

But - what to do with the hole that is there. Should I fill it with soil to use as the base for whatever I put on top. Or just put decking boards across and leave the hole underneath?

Any ideas?

Wash it out, then fill it with white sand for the kid's sand pit.(Don't use yellow builder's sand, or you'll have yellow tinted kids).

You can make a cover to keep the cats out from using it.

Maybe a wooden deck with lift up hinged lid or removal lid section, it would then serve two functions.

That's a pretty good idea, perhaps even some hinges on the decking so you don't have to completely remove it.

Pics would help, but that's a brilliant idea!

Sadly haven't got any pictures of the deck I built with hidden sand pit, it was done at least 15 years ago.

When the kids grew up, the old fish pond was then returned to it's original purpose
