Was just watching 'Around the World in 80 Treasures' and they played music from 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. It just reminded me how amazing the music was. What films have scores that you think are truly amazing? I'm not talking about films that have lots of great songs in them, but more films that have original music. Off the top of my head I would have to say:

Radiers of the Lost Ark
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings (Trilogy)
The Omen
American Beauty
The Hunt for Red October
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
The Untouchables
The Right Stuff

Film scores are often underrated as a genre. I wonder which other ones I have missed purely becuase the film itself didn't appeal to me.

Lady Vengeance, actually.

That's one movie i saw at the cinema and actually thought to myself, "Awesome music."

Don't think i've ever done that on another film, scores rarely 'stand out' for me.

I always find it a little amusing that Clint could go from the Poppies to kick ass film score writer :)

Most of my personal favourites have already been mentioned.

One i think thats been missed is Blade Runner, Vangelis has done a few good scores.

Pretty much all of my suggestions have been suggested by others already:

Gladiator,
Band of Brothers,
Star Wars,
Apocolypse Now,
Godfather,
LoTR
Collatoral

:)

The Keep (Tangerine Dream)
Legend (Tangerine Dream)
Last Of The Mohicans (Trevor Jones / Clannad)
Robocop (Basil Poledouris)
Terminator (Brad Fiedel)
Blackhawk Down (Hans Zimmer)
Dune (Toto / Brian Eno)
Excalibur (Trevor Jones)
Jaws (John Williams)
Chariots Of Fire (Vangelis)
Blade Runner (Vangelis)

------------
BTW, does anyone know that James Horner's score of "Aliens" (or rather one part of it) has been used dozens of times on other movies. I can spot it instantly.
