Like the time travel thread, I'm loving the film recommendations. I thought I'd start a discussion about films about AI as there are loads. I'll kick it off by naming my favourites:

Blade Runner (1982)
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
A.I. (2001)
Ex Machina (2015)
I, Robot (2004)

M3GAN

Transcendence (it's awful though)

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) - Spielberg, story of a robot child seeking to become real

The Matrix
Bicentennial Man
2001: A Space Odyssey
Wall-E
Automata (Underrated imo, it's not perfect but it's a good watch)
Moon (2009)

Some of my favourites off the top of my head^

Its not aged well but Lawnmower man has an AI spin on it, was more billed as VR at the time but is sort of a AI connection there. The directors follow up Virtuosity is very much AI though

Granted both movies are utter pants but if you go into the mindset that they aren't very good then they can be enjoyable, Lawnmower man especially with the even bad at the time CGI and Virtuosity has Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in it

Upgrade is brilliant, the part when the AI gets "switched on"

Not sure if it falls into the AI category, more VR maybe, but Existenz is a great film.

Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970)
Of course it's dated, but the core concept has held up really well.

The supercomputer they've built for training Grok is called Colossus, not sure if it's a coincidence but made me chuckle when I heard it.

I have heard good things about it.

I'm confused by why people say 'The Matrix' is a film about AI.

I haven't seen it for years but wouldn't that be virtual reality and existentialism?

Although there were those weird robotic octopus type things in it. I don't really remember.

Transcendence - slated upon release in 2014 but would probably be different if released today. Not a bad film, has some major loop holes but have to remember that it is Hollywood not reality.
