So I remember reading this book (by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh) back when I was at uni, and it remains one of the few times I've genuinely been shocked and disgusted* by any media. Now I see they've made a film starring James McAvoy and wonder how the hell they've managed that? Anyway, should be a good watch but I expect there'll be quite a bit of controversy - McAvoy himself has said he wouldn't be surprised if there are audience walk outs at cinemas, could be just hype though. As an aside I've never like McAvoy in anything he has done - wonder if this'll be the first...

*Disgusted because it's meant to be disgusting, not disgusted that it had been published.

I really liked McAvoy in Trance despite the film being average at best. Filth has definitely got my attention.

Went to see it tonight, I read the book before hand.
Found the film funnier then the book, but say much more without spoilers.

Missed the tapeworm :(

Filth was the only Irvine Welsh book I threw in the bin before finishing, it was so vile!

Having seen the trailer it looks like a lot of the atmosphere of the book has been tongue-in-cheekified

Trailer does indeed look awesome and it sounds like there is some potential controversy which makes it even more appealing.

Heard McAvoy on the Kermode & Mayo Film Review podcast last week and it did sound pretty interesting - not read the book so nothing to base that opinion on other than what they discussed and Marks subsequent review - which was positive but he didn't think it was a film for him.

McAvoy does sound like a top bloke - very friendly and easy to talk to - unlike some other actors they've had on the show who've been very distant / tired of the interview roadshow they go on for publicity.

Caught a snippet of something in passing recently and thought exactly the same thing. Took a couple of moments to realise it was McAvoy, but my instant thought was that he seemed like a genuinely enthusiastic and really nice bloke.

What's Filth all about then? The book has completely passed me by, so I've no idea why it's regarded as so digusting and nigh on unfilmable?
