Final build advice

I got a lot of great suggestions for builds in my previous thread but in the end I decided to go with shiny on the outside and random and ugly on the inside. ^^

I'm ordering this thing in about a week and was just wondering about a couple of last things.

First of all, I am still trying to decide between that water and air cooler.

Would prefer to go with air if at all possible.

Was wondering if that Noctua cooler would keep the CPU reasonably cool considering that I won't be too greedy with the OC and only plan to go for 4.2ghz.
Basically I want to make sure it does not get too hot under normal conditions and does not go over safe limits under load in a 30+ degree summer.

I would also like to know if I can fit 4 of my chosen rams under the Noctua, as I plan to stick in 2 more later.

This brings me to the next question. Over the course of the year I plan to stick in the following upgrades.

- 1TB SSD

- Maybe another HDD for archiving

- The 2 extra rams

- Another GTX 780Ti

Is there anything here that would prevent me from doing this and is that 1000W PSU sufficient or overkill for this plan?

Finally I was wondering if replacing the case fans on the Cosmos II with Noctuas would have an effect on system temps.

Oh yeah, and some similar replacement options for the thermal paste/water cooler would also be welcome in case they are still out of stock when i order.

Here is the final -ish build.

I'm not a huge fan of the Cosmos case. I think you can do a lot better for your money at half the price or thereabouts. Corsair 540/750D as an example.

Led ram in a non-windowed case seems a bit pointless to me.

I would take the Superflower Leadex gold 1000W over the Hale.

Hi,

So you're budget is about 2k?

Is this JUST a gaming rig?

Is that case a MUST HAVE? Its a massive chunk of the budget and to be honest you're not really using it to its full potential.

Personally i'd be looking at something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti Superclock ACX 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (03G-P4-2884-KR) £599.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £269.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £149.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard - FREE Gigabyte M8000x Gaming Mouse £143.99
1 x NZXT Hale Power 90+ 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £139.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black (CC-9011030-WW) £129.95
1 x Silverstone Tundra Series TD02 Liquid CPU Cooler £83.99
1 x Avexir Core White Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21330904G-2CIW) - White Light £79.99
1 x LG BH16NS40 16x SATA Internal BDRW - OEM £74.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £65.99
1 x Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound (4g) £6.98
Total : £1,766.35 (includes shipping : £17.10).

Firstly, the Case. Still stunning to look at just smaller (the cosmos is HUGE) and a lot cheaper, it also has a lovely window..

The ACX Superclock is only slightly (13 mhz) slower than the classified edition. Saving £40 right there..

You won't need 16GB of RAM for gaming let alone 32GB. 8GB will be fine for now. White lights will look amazing.

The cooler is a great unit for the money it currently is. :)

The Blacks aren't worth the money IMO. They aren't MUCH faster and they make a hell of a noise.. Just deal with a standard HDD.

Paste, I am an MX2 fan. :)

Picked the case because it is closed so I don't have to care much about how the parts look, it looks pretty damn awesome, has great and easy to clean dust filters for my insanely dusty room and is bloody massive which should help with the airflow when I stick in all the other parts and make it pretty damn hard to steal in case some crackhead breaks into my place while I'm at work. ^^

I sure as hell am overpaying on that thing but considering it will eventually hold about 3k worth of parts, the 300 does not seem that much in the end.

As for the rams. I plan to do a fair bit of editing work so 16 gig is pretty much a must and the 32 wont hurt later so I wanted to make sure they will actually fit under that huge ass cooler, tho I may just go for the liquid cooler instead.

On that note, does anyone know what the difference in temps would be between the Silverstone Tundra Series TD02 Liquid CPU Cooler and the Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler at 4.2ghz?

The case choice is obviously upto you, were just offering our opinion.

Just because a case is big doesn't mean the airflow is better. Think about it, if air is not being moved through a fan it has time to heat up. Aslong as the components have enough room to breathe they will stay cool. I think the 540 or 750D are perfect for you.

I think that last thing a crackhead would go for is a Heavy PC. They'd be after mobiles and tablets not PC's.

If you're that into video editing why haven't you considered IB-E? With your budget thats the way to go.

Overclocking a silicon lottery so its hard to tell, but looking at this review it seems very good. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2013/07/12/silverstone-tundra-td02-review/2
