updated due to feedback, thanks

also to match brand names, is it worth replacing the current motherboard with like
Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBGE0-G0EAY00Z]
or some other kinda of asus

You may want to also throw in a secondary HDD, for storage etc.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache @£44.99.

well , i am trying work out if i should go with a 850w psu or if the 650 will be enough since the 650 will save me money, but end of day i dont want to have to replace it 6months later :)

and with the os, should i just go for homestart? not going for Ultimate just seems like i would be missing something to make my computer uber :)

You save £55 compared to what you originally were going to spend.

If you were ever going to use 2 gfx cards then go 850 if not more. But looking at it, the 580 is quite a lower consumption card so it will be fine for your specs.

While talking dual gfx cards, thought about 2x 6870 saves around £100 and is faster
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/301?vs=305

There are issues with running 2 gfx, eg look at Crysis on the bench marks. But 9 times out of 10 it is fine now.

tbh i havent looked into going duel cards

because i am mostly playing starcraft 2, and if 2 graphic cards are better for live streaming then i will change, i have been a nivida fan boy for a while, again i will change to ati If its going to help me better.

I was a amd fan boy for like 15 year sor something and only now changing to intel :) so whatever seems best

Change the PSU to: OCZ Z-Series 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply.
If you also need an OS, then get the home premium bundle:
Microsoft Windows 7 Bundle - Home Premium 64 Bit @ £68.40
Options applied to the above product:
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM @£32.99

Just looking for benchmarks, xfiring looks like a bad idea on SC2
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_6870_X2/19.html
But aparantly a patch has sorted that, but I have not seen any bench marks for it.
But SLI does improve things
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/geforce-gtx-560-sli_5.html#sect4
2x 560 gtx ti for £30 less the price of one 580
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-173-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341
and is faster at 1920, but as fast at 2560 so no advantage if thats the res you play at.

as we talking about sli, sc2 just had a patch
SLI performance has been improved.
hehe

so i guess i should look at that, but buying 2 older cards, wont that mean i would lose out on better looking graphics over speed?

tbh on a game like sc2 speed > graphics but just thinking of any fps i might play at some point

The gfx on 1 560 gtx ti would be exactly the same as 1 580 gtx, the 580 would just run faster and smoother, 2 560s would be just the same, but faster and smoother than 1 580.

When you start looking at 2 470s or 2 460s they are older technology, but they still are DX11 cards. They are fast but hot, thats why I suggested the 560s.

To me the difference is
580gtx - Guaranteed all the time, £30 more
SLI - Faster, cheaper, bragging rights BUT possible issues with certain games, possible microstutter

I also find it easier and more profitable to sell 2 mid priced gfx than one high end gfx 2 years later.

ic, thanks gib_gib.

so if i go sli or just 1 card the above specs/psu/motherboard etc will be able to run both ?

I know live streaming also comes down to internet but i guess sli would make streaming a little better IF i had computer lag issues

added note, i saw on the 580 i was going buy u can now have 3 sli, lol nuts :)

i am learning towards sli now, so if i so sli i go for the 1 u linked the ocuk geforce gtx560ti

the 850w will run them fine,I would need my calculator out for the 650w but would prefer the safety of a 850 with sli.

Motherboard will run sli well.

I mainly linked the ocuk one since it was £20 less than the next one which was in stock. It will be just as fast as the other ones which have not been oc'd. The only reservation is its ocuk branded so it means it has a 2 year waranty not 3 like you would get from the evga. If things break with me its straight away, 2 years waranty would be plenty for me.
