Following some advice from a previous thread, I've read around and made some alterations - but before I press 'order' would appreciate any feedback on this - its been a while since I built my own and its entirely possible I've done something daft or am spending money where I don't need to! Build is for standard home PC with some gaming (CS:GO/WoW but might branch out now the spec is better) and office applications.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,637.09 (includes shipping: £15.30)

Do be aware that monitor isn't really capable of the proper HDR10 standard - it's not bright enough, panel isn't 10bit, lacks dimming zones and isn't colour accurate enough.

^^^^

would push gtx 1070ti on @tamzzy list- just overclock it and should hit gtx 1080 stock performance

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £930.48 (includes shipping: £10.50)

saves £50-60 . cheapest 2 year and 3 year warranty cards

would personally choose eisbaer 240 just because its a proper AIO unit and silent but believe cooler master should do the job with the standard 8700 and saves £35

formula 550w would save £15 but not modular... and would ruin the look a bit :(

overclock the 1080 and get ~10% better performance than 1070ti overclocked :p
either is a solid choice really. depends on how much op wants to spend.

TBH, as you guys have said (and which i will echo) the weak link in the build is the monitor.

its the 11gbps version thats a cracker , 2.2ghz underwater and 12gbps ram overclock .. really opens up over the 1070ti.... but thats no longer a possibility :(

Changes:
  • Slightly better PSU (fully modular and 10 year warranty)
  • Different (AsRock) motherboard - 10 power-phases and has some VRM cooling. Recommended by Techspot as best value B360 board.
  • Different storage options - Samsung's EVO SSD are industry leading for reliability. WD 1TB for everything else (also reliable).
  • Different case - This Fractal has higher build quality, includes 2 fans, is silenced and has a PSU shroud (will make build look tidier).
  • CPU cooler is much cheaper, no need for a 240mm AIO in my view. The i7-8700 struggles on stock Intel heat sink, but would be fine on the Hyper 212x.

In this review they fit a 160mm tall CPU cooler in the Q300L, even though CoolerMaster says clearance is only up to 157mm. Just in case you disliked the Fractal, and wanted to stay with the Q300L.
