Morning all,

Here's my current list, just want a final check before I commit. There's no CPU here, I've got a 5700X3D that I can temporarily use until either the 7800X3D comes back down in price, or 9800X3D becomes available.

Mainly a gaming rig for 1440P.
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,796.89 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I know that there are cheaper cooling options, but part of the build is for aesthetics.

One thing I'm struggling with is fan orientation.

Here's how I want it:

<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="a/1co7xnf" data-context="false" ><a href="//imgur.com/a/1co7xnf"></a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Hmmm, I always struggle to embed images

AIO at the top, pulling out air
3x fans with LCD displays on side drawing in air - reverse type required?
3x fans at bottom drawing in air - reverse type required?
1x fan at rear pulling out air

Any other suggestions for motherboard, GPU etc? I probably don't want to spend much more, but could cave if there's something that's definitely worth a bit extra.

You Can not use 5700X3D in that Msi motherboard as it is a am4 processor and the motherboard is am5.
Ahh, that puts a halt until the AM5 CPUs come down in price then! At least my son will be happy at getting a CPU boost sooner though :)

DDR5 RAM is required for AM5 CPUs though, right?

Yes DDR5 with AM5, DDR4 with AM4

Wouldn’t be surprised to see some movement on 7800x3d’s on Black Friday tbh

Was just about to say the same, you also need DDR4 RAM.
ha ha, get what you're saying ddr4 for the 5700x3d, but no, ddr5 is correct, it's what he needs as he's going am5 build. my vote would be get a ryzen 7600 for £170(available with free delivery) as a placeholder if he can't wait. when the 7800x3d drops again, flip it..think 7600 are going £120 odd 2nd hand (haven't looked massively), so as long as the 7800x3d drops back to £320 odd, you'll still be in the money...whether it will any time soon I'm not sure. I think it dropped down there to get rid of stock not only for the 9800x3d release but also because the intel launch was happennng...now the intel launch was such a failure demand for the 7800x3d exploded...if they keep the 9800x3d at 450, I'd say you wouldn't need to make the 7800x3d much less than say £375 to make it fairly compelling. there are people upgrading to 9800x3d from 7800x3d, so look for 2nd hand

Could always put a offer in on this B grade 7600.

yes
3x fans with LCD displays on side drawing in air - reverse type required?
reverse
3x fans at bottom drawing in air - reverse type required?
reverse
1x fan at rear pulling out air
standard

regarding imgur..so when logged in, and you've uploaded your photo's in the top right of screen where your name is then click the icon(in my case a C for 1st letter of my name). on the drop down I then select images at the bottom
you'll then get all your uploads in a grid
find the phto you want and click it
it will enlarge and on the right of it will be 6 links...top to bottom 1)image link, 2) Direct link, 3) Markdown link, 4) HTML link, 5) BB code link and 6) linked BB code
below that will be size. i have set on large thumbnail
copy the direct link button
then in OCuk forum click the insert image icon along top line of the post(one to the right of the smiley face, and paste the link..it should upload photo as below (which is large thumbnail siz)

image below is my setup...didn't have reverse fans when built so ideal to see where they go. All my fans are standard so to get air being pulled ito the case i have to have them facing outwards so you can see, the bottom and side, I see the backside(bad side)...these are the ones you want reverse fans for(then you'll see the nice side)..top is standard(which will be set up on aio anyway)..rear would be standard, but i didn't bother with that..so much airflow anyway...ive got an air cooler with my 7800x3d, so just fans at top, but aio would look the same, you'd just have the radiatorbetween the fans and case top

at mo my setup, my cpu is sitting at 37 degrees and ambient temp in room is 24 degrees (not in uk, so no heating)...so don't see need for rear fan

I'd hold off buying a new GPU, AMD aren't far off releasing their next gen models. So use IGP in a CPU and see what happens with 8800xt/8900xt

679 seems expensive or a 7900 XT at the moment. Is the sapphire version a lot better than the ones you can get for under 600? maybe it is

That's really useful Craig, many thanks!

Someone recommended it over the £620 model on another thread. It's one area where I can save money... or go the other way and add more for an XTX lol

@Jed Shields
also, you sure you want to go with the 2 dif types of fans...so top and bottom are sl infinity fans where the blade lights up, and side and back are the uni sl type, where the blade isn't lit, but you get much thicker rgb on the edges. just double checking that's the look you're going for.
i like to keep the fans the same as if using some of the lights you may have a pattern that moves along the fans from bottom to top, and so would change when you got to the different fan types. Also the aio and bottom fans aren't wireless...so you going wireless and wired?

You probably won't like my suggestions 'cos less shiny, but the amount you're paying for cooling gives me the chills.

The case comes with 7x 120mm ARGB fans.

The PSU is based on a Seasonic like your choice, but the Vertex instead minus 2 years of warranty (10 instead of 12).

That's what I did - went from looking at various 4070 supers to getting the cheapest 4070 TI super I could find regardless of brand. I've always just gone for the type of card I want rather than the specific 3rd party model, though I'm sure there is some sort of difference

Id probably have got for the 7900 xt or xtx like you, but I've had 3 AMD cards in a row and just wanted to try Nvidia this time
