Ive put aside £500 to upgrade my current cpu + mobo and treat myself to a SSD. Ive had a browse around some posts made by others and have come up with this:

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G213C1K)
Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD128BW)

Can anyone think of any improvements? My system is mainly used for gaming but i do dabble in some photoshop.

One thing i was unsure of is that i have 2 ATI 6950 in xfire, i believe the mobo selected supports x8 x8, would this be a problem?

And is 128gb SSD enough to support the OS and some game installations or would it be better to save for a higher capacity?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, as the ssd is out of stock ill hold off getting that for now.

Could you recommend a CPU cooler? And is there a notable difference between the i5 and i7 in gaming?

And you can tell from first hand experience ? The Ballistix are really **** quality these days. I used to use them exclusively, not any more.

As for recommending an 830 over an 840 pro lets just not go there.

He didn't need to pay extra for 2133Mhz. 1600Mhz is fine.

Samsung SSDs overall are better, whether you prefer 830 or 840 is upto you, I am going from customer feedback and benchmark tests between the two.

TBH I don't get why people focus on the transfer speeds of SSDs at the end of the day if you've got a decent SSD in real life usage, you're not going to notice the difference. So I would have chosen the 830 256GB over the 840 yes as 128GB does fill up quickly.....

Unless the OP can spend £200 so he can get the 256GB 840 PRO :D

Just about to order, would like one final bit of input. What are peoples thoughts on the Kingston HyperX Genesis over the Crucial Ballistix. Ive seen the HyperX recommended a lot in peoples builds and the onsite reviews of them are very positive. They are currently the same price and have the same speeds/timings, is there any reason to choose one over the other?

Well the Kingston's have received 25 OcUK customer reviews, virtually (if not all) of which gave them 5 stars, which is as good a recommendation as any!

Good luck with the build! :)

Check if they can do 1600 @1.5V

I've had a pair of HyperX Genesis grey that had 1.65V in the XMP for 1600

Newer revisions may be better, the same goes with the Ballistix - They may both be better than the revisions I had last year

I'm running 16gb of the Kingston Grey at 1600mhz and required timings with the voltage at 1.55v
