If someone has the time to quickly check compatability of these parts before I place an order, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Bounced it around for ages, trying different components etc, reading tirelessly about what all this nice shiny kit can do. Spent ages looking at pre-builds and customised builds and god only knows what else and eventually decided on this final spec.

Basically i wanted something to last, something that will eat games alive, something i can experiment with overclocking and something I can eaisly and effectively upgrade should the need arise. While i was tempted by DDR3, I just can't see the point right now, same for the screen (I curently use a 15 inch TFT...22ish should be fine for the time being).

You might want to consider a modular PSU as I've heard the Antec 900 isn't that good for cable management so it might be the same for the 1200 (may be wrong tho)

Other than that it looks a pretty decent build.
 
i have a 650w version of that psu and a modualr psu sat here also an antec 1200 and 900 (customer pc's) and the 1200 has far superioir cable management and a non modualr will be fine.. also corsairs non modular psu cables are far superior to there modular ones

dropping to the e8500 will save you just over £50. I would be getting the e8400 which would save you £70 !

This was one of the many things I have toyed with and i understand that there is little noticable difference betwen the two, i just have the time and the cash to screw around with overclocking and cooling so thought i might as well take the E0. Considering watercooling at some point, perhaps crossfire 4870's, perhaps try a 4870X2 once the price drops..who knows :)

In all honesty, i might drop to the 8500 and buy an 8600 later if the price drops so i can overclock the 8500 into oblivion in the mean time :)

Aye, i understand exactly what your saying. Considered various x38's and the P5Q mobo's but as im probably going to eventually put the system in crossfire, i figured having a true X16 + X16 might get the most out of a second card investment. This was a decision i mainly made for longevity. Of all the things i'd not want to change in the next few years, the mobo is the main one so i figured a few extra ££'s was worthwhile.

I might be completely wrong, but that was my thinking on the subject.

And yes I agree, can't fault your logic at all! I'm in the same boat balancing between what I want now and the holy grail of 'future-proofing'

I'd still swing for a P45mobo, I read that 16X+16X for crossfire gives no gains, and futureproofing really means a DDR3 mobo, but as they are way to much now I'd leave my £100 quid saved from that mobo in the bank and wait for the upgrade to DDR3 in say a yearish. And even in 12months time, that spec of yours will still rip -especially if you crossfire the 4870! Just my 2p I know, different strokes for different folks...
