Well I've just woken up this morning, thought it's going to be a boring day. I have a week off of work and nothing to do.

And much to my surprise what pops through my door but my copy of FF12, I can't even remember pre-ordering it. :p

I'm going to get some breakfast then I'm gonna laze about playing this for possibly 24 - 36 hours without sleep. :p

I'll post impressions after a few hours, if anyone has a questions about the game I'll try and answer them.

Are the FF games now online only? Last one I played was VII & VII (loved 7, hated 8)
FFXI was online but it was a one off (at least for quite a few years).

Could be a US copy sent early. It comes out tomorrow in the US.

English version is released tommorow in US, but I'm afraid Europe gets it late like always. People think it will be released here in Spring 2007.

My own impressions after playing 82 hours is that the gameplays great fun especially with the new gambit system. Although I did find the story to be non-existant and a lot of the time it feels like an endless dungeon crawler. And also the ATB (Active time battle) is a thing of the past with this game its now all played in real-time like Final Fantasy XI.

With the ATB gone this is where Gambits come into play, you have 6 playable characters that you can use and when battling you have to choose 3 of them to have in your party. You make one person the party leader (the one you control) and the other 2 are controlled by the AI (which you program yourself) which are called gambits. You start out with limited gambits and you must purchase more from the shops as you progress through the game. An example of a gambit would be that your mage would cast a healing spell on the party if your HP fell below 60%. Another would be that the mage would use a fire based spell against enemys what are weak against fire. It seems complicated when you first see it but you soon get the hang of it.

oh noticed console section. No off-line FF game for PC?
FF7 and 8 came out for PC, but don't expect there to be any more off-line FF games for the PC. I don't think Square-enix are really interested in supporting PC games. In the case of FFXI they had to since MMORPGs are still PC dominated.

so what's the storyline like so far?

plot, characters etc.

any similarities to previuos installments in these depts?

First 10 hours of the story are great, after that all you do is go from place to place not knowing why your going there half the time. The plot I personally don't think there is one, but others will argue. Characters are unique and actually have great voice actors this time (unlike Yuna and Tidus from FFX for example), but they don't have much of a personality or seem real to me. The only similaries I can see is that again we have some 17 year old kid trying to save the world, but thankfully only 3 of them are under the age of 20. And the other would be that other would be that its set in the same world of Final Fantasy Tactics (I think) but in a different time period (a few centuries before or after)

I enjoy the game, but others are either going to love it or hate it because it has a very different style of play which you either love or hate.

Not knocking you're oppinion and i haven't played it myself so i don't have an oppinion of my own, but in the interests of balance, IGN can't say enough good things about the plot/storyline

Everyones going to have a different opinion but you can almost guarantee that every review site is going to give it 90%+ or 9-9.5/10 just because its Final Fantasy as I said its all down to personal preference. I'm not saying its a terrible game I really enjoy it, but story wise it just doesn't do it for me. Half the time I found myself just running around dungeons not knowing why I'm passing through. Final fantasy VII you always had a reason to be traveling somewhere and you were well aware of it. I could give examples to back-up what I'm saying but no-one will know what the hell I'm talking about and it would spoil it for people playing the game.

I'm now at the 90 hour mark (last 30-40hours have been spent finding secrets) and I'm about to fight the hardest monster in the game which has an estimated 50,000,000 Hp and I do about 4,000 damage a time :(. I just defeated the 3rd strongest today (estimated 8,500,000 Hp) and that took around 2 hours to kill). The good thing is that you can run from the fights and come back later and it will still have the same health. So I guess that will keep me busy for a few days, I still haven't even seen the ending yet lol.

so come on i cant wait any longer!

is there Weapon to defeat ala Ruby emerald weapon etc!

what are the summons like? FFVII style, or FFX:/ stylee?

is bahamut present? does Hades feature? is there a "crappy ball" type game ala FFX? i liked cards from FF9 i think they were!

spread the detaisl!

No 'real' mini-games, the only one I can think of is this crappy fishing game.
Summons are called Espers and they blow. You obtain them by defeating them in battle.
Summons are FFX style as you lose your other 2 party members to field the Esper, but its all in realtime.
There are super-tough monsters that have millions of HP and you can't hit more than 9,999 so it takes hours to defeat (these are completely optional).
Bahamut, Shiva, Ifrit etc don't make any appearances these are all new summons, Phoenix and Ixion do but they are bosses.
The main story will last you around 60 hours and the extra side quests around 40 hours (for me it did anyway).

Well, after a prolonged period of playing all I can say about this game is that it's fantastic.

Storyline - I have to say I'm about 13 hours into the story and i'm really enjoying it atm, it does take a while to get into around 4 -5 hours but is well worth it when the meat of the story comes into it. There are a lot of twists in the story and it would seem that these are going to continue throughout the storyline. In my opinion i think the storyline is one of the better developed Final Fantasy storylines and the execution is nearly flawless. Character development is also well done, we learn little bits an peices about the characters and more is slowly drip fed to us. Overall the story and characters are well done and the game is very story/character driven.

Gameplay - Now a lot of people are going to dislike the new battle dynamic, but once you get used to it and the gambit system it works incredible well. Battles now flow a lot more easily and it never seems like a battle is a chore as you can choose to avoid them. Although it would seem that levelling is definitely a part of FFXII, some creatures can be extremely hard to beat even at low levels. Monster hunts get difficult very quickly but they are optional and they can give you some pretty decent equipment though, so they are definitely worth it. Level up system works pretty much the same, get EXP levle up. :p The Licence board works really well, not only do you get EXP from monsters but you get LP, LP = Licence points. You get 1 LP per creature at the start and more for creatures later. You use these to buy licences to use weapons. Summons even though someone in this post has said that they "blow" I'm really enjoying it, although there are only a small amount of story summons there are 13 overall from what I've been told and thye definitely help in battles. If you can get to the end of the summons usable time they do their ultimate attack which takes a huge amount of damage from the enemy.

Sound - Well first of everyone should know that this soundtrack is not done by Nobou Uematsu, but even so the ambiet sounds and music is done very well. I've not found myself get too bored of any of the tunes that the game plays. The voice acting is top class, there has only been a few times where I've gone hmm that didn't sound quite right" but mroe often that not I'm enjoying listening to the conversations between characters.

Graphics - The screenshots do not do it justice, from the into movie I thought "Great, another FF thats gonen be like watching a movie." But I was plesantly surprised to see that a lot of the action happens within the in game engine. a lot more than what happens in FFX. Theres no slowdown even with the amount of graphics on screen and the cutscenes look aboslutely amazing.

Right thats about all I can be bothered to write atm any questions post here ;)
