Final Fantasy 12

Try saying summons are useful in 20 more hours of gameplay. They die in 2-3 hits and you can't control them. I summoned the 2nd strongest it took ALL my mana only to die within the first 10 seconds even though I was healing it. Its more effective to use your other 2 characters since they are controllable and will do way more damage and won't die so quickly. And when the summon uses its special attack before its time is up you have to site through 1 minute of CG everytime (looks good the first few times but gets old fast) and you can't even skip it.

I say they blow because to field it you have to sacrifice both your other 2 party members who would do more damage together then anything your summon could do therefore it means they are useless. The only time I used a summon was Belias and the next 2 your obtain the first few times to see what they were like and second because you were forced to summon him to advance in the story.

Also a tip for anyone playing it right now it confused me at first so it may confuse others since its not very clear. Its about the types of armor you can equip:
-For spell casters equip magical armor and staffs or rods since they raise your magic stats quite a bit. Which in turn make your spells a lot more powerful.
-For swordsman/knights use heavy armor and either sword and shield or a 2 handed sword/spear
-For thief/rouge type build use light armor and daggers with shields equiped which will raise your evasion and speed by a whole lot. with higher speed it means you will attack more quickly and have a higher chance of getting multiple hits.

I made the mistake of using Heavy armor equiped with a mages cap and it lowered my strength by quite a bit, but of course your free to play how you like. :)

From what I've played of it so far, it seems to play like FFXI, but with the A.I taking the place of the other human players.

jus started my first game

1st impressions... the camera seems a bit wierd and kinda seems to make things spin meaning you can lose your bearings on the map

its also slow and clunky to get to the world map through Triangle, i counted like 6 clicks to get into the town u want. and thats a lot!

fighting - its wierd like i have never experienced before, nto sure if i Like or dislike it atm... whers the acclaimed FF victory music when you win? or the sense of occasion?

Okay and one thing - WTF are they wearing? where in the world developed clothes like that? why do they even bother? tbh some of it is quite embarrassing when playing in front of family/parents etc because the characters look and sound like rent boys!

im about to start my first monster hunt, the tomato head...see how it goes tomorrow

After boss battles are the only place I have heard it.

The tomato head isn't really that difficult to do so you should be ok (just take some potions just incase). The ones after that get really tough so just leave them until you get 3 party members instead of just Vaan alone.

I've now clocked up 110 hours on it in total and have done everything except 80 rare monsters quest at phon coast (the rewards are nothing you can't already buy in the shops), the last 'mark' for the clan hunts (simply because I can't be bothered to go through 40-50 million HP when the reward is next to nothing compared to what I've already got) and Omega MkXII (again has 20-25 million health and you get rewarded with nothing so its not worth it). I don't know whats wrong since I've done everything I've wanted to and I still feel unsatisfied with having finished the game and because of that it makes me want to play FFVII again.

hmm getting a bit more into it now, and getting used to the layout of the first city so im not perma lost.

the fighting is growing on me, however it seems a bit scatty running around whilst fightlng like that, id prefer if it zoomed in somewhat to give a better view and see the different sword/knife moves etc properly like the old ff games.

i think my gaming vision is stuck in the year 2000 where characters were cartoony ish, and the layout not proper 3d etc, and still find myself thinking more about FFVII and FFiV

heh well im liking it so far - made it to the first Boss last night, though didnt get chance to fight because i was on my way out! looks Hot though!

cool so far - the new fighting system is good too.

problem is when there are 3-4 members with your party and everyone is attacking, its just like a big hackathon, i barely know who's doing what and just try to keep everyone alive through cure whilst they chip away (usually at separate targets...)the opponents.

still its keeping me hooked and much better to play than FFX. i even quite like the License system though i still prefer the notion of "Materia" and attaching it to swords/etc to power yourself up! (i think Materia was the perfect implementation of this)

ALSO; WHY dont the clothes change when you add new clothes? say u change the cap to a leather cap, or change his shirt or something else, surely this should be reflected in his appearance as he walks around?!

That's exactly what the gambit system is for. You can set one party member to cast cure on anyone who falls below e.g. 70% of HP, or attack the enemy that you are targetting, or attack any enemy that has < 60% HP etc etc.

yea if it wasnt for the Cure>70% pretty much everyone would have died in the last battle or two lol!

but i have set Vaan's Gambit to attack enemy regardless.

however i can run right up to 1 and he still wont attack, unless i set the attack command? is that right? surely if i have gambits on, and ask him to attack enemy leader or any enemy surely he should do when they are in range as opposed to forcing me to target each and every1 before he does anything?

I noticed that too, but I actually like the fact that I have to tell him to attack something. It gives me a bit more control, especially considering I have everyone elses attacks focused on the party leaders target.

fedex just delivered it to me at work!

i'm so excited..
and i just can't hide it..
i'm about to lose control..

..and i think i like it.

Just to check you do have gambits switched on right? (not in the gambit menu) but when in battle there should be a orange/yellow 'G' next to everyones name/health etc (if its switched on that is). If thats not the problem I suggest looking at how you have them set up very carefully because I never had the problem you've got.

I often found it much easier to just have gambits on for my other 2 party members and left my party leader in my own control because if I had them on for him, he would just leg it into a huge group of tough monsters and get everyone killed almost. I recommend not to have Gambits switched on for your party leader until later when you need to spam spells to win and stay alive.

Also a good tip would be to have a mage character when you eventually get some decent spells and a lot of your gambits then you can get the mage to auto-matically cast a spell that a certain monster is weak against. It helps a lot when you start facing some really strong marks/bosses.

thanks for that- will bear in mind tonight!

also as i said i have reazched 1st boss...(you know the flamen hors, which incidently looks amazing) to realise that my only black magic i equipped vaan with before i left town was bloomin fire! lot of good that'll do me now!

lol, anyone know how to beat the Ring Wyrm (ring dragon) on the loot quests? he is well 'ard. my characters are ~ lvl 20, and i can deal out like 100-200 dmg per hit, but this guy can put out 800+ per shot, and my characters only have health of like 1000-1200.

any tips on beating this guy? i havent played the game in over a week now simply because i cant beat this guy. and its not like i dont go around trying to vele up, i fight everythign that comes close, and then go back and re0fight them if necessary to get more exp!

Leave it until you can buy flametongues (sword) which are bought in Jahara for 5200 gil and then its easily beaten since its weak to fire. I dunno how far you are yet so can't give that much advice, but once you have flametongues on each character they should deal around 800-1000 damage each depending on their levels.

Don't worry about leaving them till a later time because they will still be there at any point during the game except when you go to fight the final boss.

Edit: Forgot what are your gambits like? These ones are a must when fighting elite monsters

Ally KO - Pheonix down
Ally HP < 50% - Healing spell/Healing potion

If you have a mage set them to attack the Ring Wyrm with Fire based spells.

Its been a while since I fought it so I forget how I had all mine set up. All I can remember is buying 3 flametongues and just melee'ing it to death while healing/reviving

im on my way to Jahara i believe to the south. i went south and i THINk killed that kroakadile (JUST) after many attempts, and am on a bit of a mish to beet some bosses before i contninue south to Jahara, about 25 hours into the game so far.

beh might have to leave it. i only have 1 summon, an i dont even know who to give it to lol!

edit; i usually have 2 attackers and a healer in my party, so usually

VAAN - Bllodsword - fighting gambit <70% cure
Balthier/hammer dude - pound away <70% cure
rabbitwoman - cure70<, cast, and also longbow

they all die wayy to quickly, one hit can take 2 out at once, and then from their on in its a phoenix fest to revive whilst everyone else continues to die.

slow/disable/blind i have tried x amount of times at the start of the battle, everyone trying to cast one of those 3 and i have only ever slowed him down 1nce, and then he just KO'd everyone lol.

I would leave it then until you can atleast get some flametongues since they have fire element and 53 atk so it would increase your damage by quite a lot. I would tell you your reward for killing it, but you might want to find out for yourself all I will say is that its a kickass weapon.
