Final Fantasy 16

Japanese media can and does have an issue with fan-service for loli type characters, and it's the worst thing about it, because they make a lot of very cool stuff, but I hate the young looking characters being overly-sexualised.

I can't remember much of this in FF7 remake though? what bits? perhaps I am de-sensitised as I watch a lot of anime.

The Don Corneo part where he wants to give Cloud who is dressed up as a woman a bone.

Ah maybe. Didn’t really notice anything out of hand.

The Cloud karaoke part was hilarious though. So well done. My wife walked in the room when I was playing that part and was like ‘what the actual f!’ Made the whole thing even funnier :D

Keeping in mind FF7 was made in the different time. Things we see now as cringe, wasn't back then. But the remake they had to keep those parts in as they are the most memorable.

Looking at FF7 then and FF16 now, you think it wasn't the company. An all English cast voicing an FF game!?!?! No one expected that.

The Japanese and Taiwanese think that English voice in game is "cool" according to a few folks I know over there or at least it's seen as a big different.

Ff7 back in the day was immense likely one of the best games ever made. Now playing back it's terrible. The remake is ok.
I'm gradually looking at playing the more modern ones but I just need more time ha!!

I liked the English voice acting in ff16, I usually don't watch anime dubbed as the voice actors all sound american, but the ones they used in ff16 sounded good and fit the theme.

I agree I don't really remember having any issues with the content on ff7 remake.

Bah apologies, definitely miss wrote there I meant playing it now will offend the eyes the polygons are not meant for today's world. Great game play though
I’ve tried to replay the original many times and I just can’t get on with it. I have no particular nostalgia for it though I did get half way through it way back when. I have it on the Switch so maybe, just maybe one day I will persevere to the end.

TBH, it's one of those games where I think if you don't hold any nostalgia for it, it is very hard to see what "all the fuss is about". I feel the same trying to play Mario 64.

Yeah for some stuff I definitely think you need nostalgia to make it work today.

Friend of mine was trying to get me to play MGS, whilst the games were probably really good for the time, what I saw didn't really impress me.

Ended up picking this up on sale a few weeks back for £30 and... it's not great, is it?

The story is convoluted and boring, the combat is flashy with no substance (no challenge whatsoever), and the pacing is dreadful. There's these massive epic fights and then an hour or two of fetch quests, and I've skipped all of the side missions completely.

PS5 console reckons I'm just shy of 70% through the game but honestly, not sure I can be bothered to continue. I'm only in it for the epic set pieces and Eikon battles, couldn't really care less about the characters.

They've just introduced two new baddies too, which I feel is a little late game for that... but it is what it is.

I have no idea how it scored so highly on the ratings, I dislike both XIII and XV but they're both superior to this. I'm sure FFXV was more graphically impressive too, even though that game was an incomplete mess.

Just beat Titan and I'm assuming Bahamut is next, or Odin, is it worth persevering? Are those fights worthwhile?

yeah I struggled with the new game a bit, combat was pretty average and some of the themes have lost their charm from the original 1990's release. The old FF7 was one of my favourite games for it's time but there's no way I could play it now, it's not aged that well tbh

the more modern FF games seem to score well but I've not liked any of them. The stories and characters just seem like teen trash (I'm an old git  )

Ive just started this but ive liked what ive played so far which is essentially just the prologue i think
That's the best bit by far. It's all downhill thereafter. Probably my most disappointing game of 2023. Sure, there are objectively worse games but, given the budget and aspirations of the development team, it falls well short.

The prologue was the best bit for sure, but I think people are selling it a little short beyond that, it's still not a bad game, there are certainly many worse games out there.

You have to up the difficulty a bit though to make the combat more challenging, if you pick the story option to begin with, it's far, far too easy, wish they let you do a slightly harder difficulty from the beginning than the other one.

I think the worst thing is that it seems to force you to slow down at times, rather than letting you carry on with the more interesting bits. So you lose some of the pace especially compared to a high budget game like God of War.

Still playing it now, halfway through the game. I'm still enjoying it but some of the story drags out when you want to get into battles.
