Hi all!

Just landed a copy of FF7 but having bother with mods etc.

Anyone able to point me to ones that come with installers so that I don't have to mess around with the highwind app.

Cheers in advance!

Interesting with the intro, but really shoddy on the editing.

Personally I'd rather leave the cutscenes alone.

I never really bother with graphics mods, the only thing I always change is just the music by replacing the crappy MIDI with PSF/MP3's of the PS1 version.

Even so, I haven't touched the PC version in years. Ever since the PSOne Classic version for PS3, it's been my go to since (Same for FFVIII). Just cannot be bothered to faff about with mods any more, and the only reason I would play the PC version is to cheat with the awesome savegame editor programs out there.

How much did you get the game for Bevysters? Did it still come with the lovely cardboard box?

I got my mate to download this game on his ps3 and he didn't get it, at all.

He thought it was a rip off of pokemon, some people.

I added a few graphic mods (Aali’s Custom Graphics Driver, Phoenix Rejuvenation, ProjectTeam Avalanche’s Graphical Overhaul) and replaced the MIDI with MP3s and it looks good.
For some reason I couldn't get it to work after I reinstalled Windows, so I've left it for now.

There are a few people doing the FF7 hi-res stuff at the moment by the looks of things. Also, the last time i played my copy i was stuck at the bike scene leaving Midgar. I needed a patch because the game was created for hilariously low specs compared to these days, the bike scene was over in about 4 seconds, it goes super fast and i couldn't do it.
So first things first, get the patches sorted.

Yeah I think that was mainly to do with V-Sync stuff as well.

It was hilarious though.

And no matter how good some mods are to replace some of the graphics, the battle swirl is still too fast and looks like ****. :p

The PC version has MIDI sound? why would they do that, the music is one of the greatest parts of a final fantasy game, why would they not use the awesome music that the playstation version has?

Well it was 1998 and was very limited at the time.

To get the best sound possible, you either needed a Creative AWE64 or Yamaha XG card if the game's configuration tool shows otherwise.

I quite liked the sound of the Yamaha XG MIDI, but it still wasn't as close to the PS1 version.

And when it comes to the "One-Winged Angel" track, there were no vocals at all.

Just shows how bad the PC port was.

The end of the intro could be cut a lot better.

Got the game for £20. Its not the one with the cardboard box though.

I hate FF7 on the P.C!

I spent many a good hour going round my friends house to watch him play FF7 on the PS1. He would let me play of course, being the good friend that he is/was but it was never enough for such an epic game and I never had my own PS1.

So one day I bought the P.C version. It was going very well, I got further than I ever had before, hell even close to the end of the game. I got up to the cut scene where the weapons escape, and BOOM, some kind of video error and it wouldn't go past that cut scene.

I never did figure it out. Until this day I have never gotten further than the weapons escaping. I've since had a PS2 and a PS copy of FF7 but never got that far. I may even buy it for my PS3, but still....I hate the P.C version!

HAHA I have fond memories of the PC version myself. I had all sorts of problems when I first ran it, but then I was 14 and didn't know a lot about PC's back then.

My PC at the time was one of them Packard Bell's with an awesome Pentium 233Mhz with MMX, 32MB RAM, and an onboard ATI Rage 2MB. I mean come on, not even minimum requirements for this.

Lots of crashing and fiddling about, just so I can run the game on 320x240 resolution (Not fullscreen!), software rendering and FM Synthesizer.

Good times.

Final Fantasy 8 on the PC ran decently though if I recall.

(It's also a better game.) :p

/flamesuit on

Runs perfectly :)

I would agree and disagree with that last comment ;)

FF8 is short, the junction system is broken (far too easy) and the part of the story where they realise they were all in the same orphanage but FORGOT BECAUSE THE GFs MADE THEM FORGET....is retarded.
Apart from that, i freakin' love FF8.
