So after playing over 100 hours of Final Fantasy XIII, I had completed everything bar Treasure Hunter and I decided to call it a day.

Now it has gave me the Final Fantasy bug and I really feel like replaying either Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy X.

However I have NOT played FFXII(12) or XI, although I am not in the mood for an MMO, would you guys say XII is worth playing? compared to VII and X how many hours can you clock up trying to achieve everything in the game?

I am a big fan of X because of the damage break and the dark aeons, these were very hard to defeat and challenging which I loved about the game... VII obviously had the ultimate weapons, the chocobo breeding, the secret areas like sunken ship.. all these side game features that take a lot of time to complete are what interest me.

So, any advice guys? :)

haha I just came back from 19 months of travelling and picked up my copy of FFXII again. I had no idea where my last save point was, what the storyline is and what to do.

I am now well aware of what to do, I just suck at it now. I only just realised that you have to buy 'more powerful spells' from shops and sell loot to get the Gil for it. Not like the old FF games at all hahahaha

In before band wagon that is "ff7 omg its amazing play that its the best"

XII is like Marmite.

Awesome: FF7,8,10

Good: 9,12

Rubbish: 10-2, 11
All imo of course but I think many will agree that 11 is not as good as WoW and 10-2 was absolutely awful.

I am actually playing 12 at the moment, before getting 13. 12 is good, a bit different to the older ones but I am enjoying it 30 hours in. I have a feeling I am nearish the end. I probably won't try to get all the extras, as while it is a good game, it just isn't as epic as 7 or 8.

The thing that killed XI as an MMO for me, it diddnt have a free trial until it was already like 5 years old, and I was already into WoW, But thats not to say its a bad game!

But yea, If you havent played 12, go for it, You may like it or hate, if you do though have a quick glance at a guide concerning certain treasure chests...

But you cant go wrong with X! Think my newest save is at 40 hours or so, But at least 20 of that is playing the mighty Blitzball and finding new recruits!

I just checked on Gamefaqs for a FFVII guide, someone has written a "Perfect Game" guide with stuff to do like;

<Perfect Game Note 1:>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NOTE: Again we feel we must mention - for those who skip all introductory
paragraphs - that these Perfect Game Notes do NOT have to be done in order
to complete the game. This Guide can be followed perfectly to ensure that
you don't miss anything, without having to do the instructions in these
perfect game notes. They are only for perfectionists, and they are
implemented in the walkthrough to ease them in this tough challenge.
Please don't feel distracted by these notes if you're not interested in
this challenge and simply use the Guide regularly. [Boring talk ends now.]
As for the actual note:
Head to the train graveyard to the right so you can save up money to buy 99 Iron
Bangles. This can take a very long time, however there *is* a way to slightly
speed it up. Mono Drives (the small floating robots) sometimes drop an Ether.
You can sell this for a whopping of 750 gil! Just pray they drop it, because
it's a rather rare drop. It's not recommended to sell any other items you own
because they aren't as profitable. You need to save 15840 gil to buy 99 Iron
Bangles.. but you'll also get 1500 gil from Barret, and you can also find an
Ether as a treasure. You may also want to set the Battle Speed to the maximum in
the menu. This will cut off a few more minutes per hour. Still, expect this to
take a while.
that might be fun, will remind me of the constant grind MMO's used to bring :p
I started playing VII on PC earlier, I can't believe how good it is. Great story, and despite the somewhat dated graphics, the gameplay and battle system is really fun :D
I'm most likely going to buy it off PSN at some point, just 'trialing' it on PC. It's quite buggy anyway...
First time since HL1 that an 'old' game has remotely interested me!
just a quick heads up. the pc version of ffVII has the rubbish quality midi music. where as the ps1 version has full mp3 quality. you can tell the difference, i kid you not. :p
id say 7,8 and 10 are definately worth replays! in any order. i particularly liked 7 and 8.
Well since I have 7 already on my ps3 ill fire that up now, whilst I download 8 and tomorrow i'll go out and try n grab X and XII, I can't believe I gave X away a few years ago :(
I would say that FFXII is definately worth a try, just to see the different direction that the game took for the series. It's the closest to an open world RPG that a Final Fantasy can get.
FF7 is worth playing again on the PC with the updated graphics/resolution patches and enhanced soundtrack.
I'm in the same position as the OP, never played 11 or 12 but interested in both. Are there any issues playing 12 on the PS3?
