Final Fantasy Question

I have just got to Archadies city. I have been selling off all the items I picked up for gil - To buy magic, technicks, weapons, armour.

Am I missing out here?
Also am I nearing the end? I must be after 32 hours!

There is still a few places to go, especially one massive tower structure which probably inspired the Taijen's Tower in FFXIII.

FFXII is quite a big game with so many different and diverse locations, and to think, all of this is only one small section on the Ivalice map, so it would be interesting to see if Square-Enix would look to have any future games out there to expand upon it i.e. like the Rozzarian Empire all the way to the West which is only mentioned in name. FFXII: Revenant Wings on the Nintendo DS gave us a floating continent.

Final Fantasy Tactics is set thousands of years after XII, you can see the airship graveyards and hear tales of extinct moogles etc.

In fact, Vagrant Story on PS1 is in Ivalice too, even further in the future than Tactics.

However I have NOT played FFXII(12) or XI, although I am not in the mood for an MMO, would you guys say XII is worth playing? compared to VII and X how many hours can you clock up trying to achieve everything in the game?

Really enjoyed XII here. Once you get past the fact that you can still move around during combat, you'll soon realise that it isn't really that much of a departure from other FF games as you first think.

Time wise, I put in about 120 hours on it.

Couldn't stand XII myself, unlikeable characters and an uninteresting story.

One of the major complaints I had as well is the games utter obsession with status ailments.

wow. that is cool. i never knew that about tactics. i love tactics, anyone who has missed it out should really get it and play it.

yes I agree tactics is one of the other FF's that was utterly addictive and spent over 100 hours on easily... the Dark Dungeon :D ahhhh memories

You definately missed out on some fun, Earlier on in the game, its possible to craft better weapons than its possible to buy. And it stacks odds in your favour. I guess you could say it was fun for those reasons, later in the game its possible to still craft some great weapons, but the fun is in using them through the game and finding new ones. I found that anyways :D

I spent so long in the mines fighting those skeletons for an item to create a weapon, I forget what i was trying to make but i remember it seemed important at the time :D

Well I phoned GAME this morning and asked if they had FFX and FFXII in stock

"Yes we do, they are preowned however"

"excellent, no problem" I thought

Went down to the store and after 20 minutes of searching they "can't seem to find them"

Great... they phoned their other store who apparently have them in stock. On the way out there was a HMV and I gave it a shot, and what do you know?;

pre-owned, but for a tenner i thought it was a bargain :)

I never liked FFX or FFXII because they were both terribly boring. FFX suffered from boring characters and the dialogue was cheesy and poorly voiced (by the voice actors). FFXII was just too slow to do anything and required you to unlock licenses, then buy them and then buy the equipment just to wear a hat. It was ridiculously slow and dumb like an MMO but if you got into it then the game was good at least.

7 is generally considered the best and probably is, it's very accessible, got a good plot and characters along with an easy combat and magic system. My favourite though was FF8 since the world seemed a bit more realisstic and I found gun blades and the more cinematic parts cool (like going on the roof of the train). Basically I'd recommend 7,8 and 9 but after that it got hazy in my view. FF13 was the first worthwhile FF in a while.

You know I could never really get into 9 for some reason, I couldn't gel with the characters at all, nothing in the game interested me :(

Same, To the point I never bothered to finish it. Got to the very end boss, Died and never retried lol.

Although Vivi was a good character lol

IMO I like the graphics on FFXIII and the gameplay and characters. All is good.:D However the battle system is just.......PANTS! All this Paradigm rubbish. You can't tell all of your characters what to do you can only tell the leader. That is just rubbish. I don't understand why they have done this? The fact is that I always liked the turn based battle system in FF until it started becoming a bit more freely, which didn't really wash with me. It was good to see that FFXIII had gone back to turn based. It's just the way it's done that makes it rubbish. The other thing about the battle system which really f's me off! When your in a battle and your leader dies.........THAT'S IT! GAME OVER! WHY?!?!?::mad: It's happened a couple of times, been fighting a difficult boss, got it's life right down really doing well. All of a sudden your leder is dead but you have 3 other characters that are alive and are capable of restoring your life with Phoenix Down, but no that's it game over start again from the last save point! WHY! The battle system is not the worst thing ever and is bearable. If you wanted to look at it in another light then you could see at as more tactiful and challenging. The whole leader dead that's it crap......... I would say that is the biggest **** up in the game! *Rant over* Otherwise awesome though :D

If you choose retry, the game takes you to the point just before the battle begins.

I love the battle system, standard turn based is starting to get a little stale.

Wall of text crits you for 9999 :p

Trying to get back into my 120 hour FF8 save but the graphics hurt my eyes, hard to believe I once thought they were amazing graphics!!

On the subject of XII the DS game I found pretty addictive, might be worth checking out.

Have you not paid attention to the game or used the Retry function yet?

The fact that you can go straight back in to redo the battle and don't lose anything important like EXP, items, Gill etc whenever you die is a bonus.

Yeah it may be frustrating that if your party leader dies it is Game Over, but as you already mentioned, that adds to the whole challenge of it.

With how there is no MP and you can spam almost everything and full HP replenishing after every battle, the game has enough easy mode features as it is.
