Final Fantasy VII Remake

How much more work will the new graphics and combat system take against how much work it took to make the game originally??

I am finding it hard to have a judgement on this episode thing. At first I have the attitude that it is disgusting as they managed to sell us the whole game when they made it the first time around. But I can't seem to work out how much work the new one would take? They have all the story, characters, mechanics (aside from combat) designed and ready so would that make the process easier or is the new graphics/voices etc a great deal more work?

But as someone else mentioned, we don't know how many people are working on this version etc.

I will probably wait until it's all out then purchase it (god knows how many times I have bought this game now lol).

Can't see this being good as what happens when the game open out and you get the Highwind and can go farm the world how would you make open world an episode?

Why jump to conclusions from very early tidbits? If you're a big FF VII fan I don't understand why you wouldn't be excited over a remake.

Maybe because you don't want to ruin the memories of the original?

I like the new graphical style, and the actions menu which appeared in a few sections in the trailer left me hoping for some similarity to the original combat mechanics, but episodes? No thanks!

I guess it would be relatively easy to constrain it to the different "transports" you get? E.g. something along the lines of:

Episode 1: Midgar -> Chocobo Farm: Congratulations, you got a chocobo, join us next episode to find out what's on the other side of that swamp!

Episode 2: Chocobo farm -> Corel Prison: Congratulations, you got the buggy! Join us next episode to continue exploring the world!

Episode 3: Corel Prison -> Rocket Town: Congratulations, you got the Tiny Bronco! Join us next episode to see where that little plane can take you!

Episode 4: Rocket Town -> Junon: Congratulations, you got the Highwind! Join us next episode, where the sky's the limit!

Episode 5 - Putting the "Final" in Final Fantasy: Junon -> End Game

IMO this is starting to look less and less like a remake, and more like a reboot (and milking) of a very successful IP

I have been wanting this remake to happen for the best part of 20 years, and now it has actually arrived, im feeling really underwhelmed and disapointed. id rather they just left it as it was. A magical, quirky game that had loads of character and a special place in my heart.
If squaresoft/square/square enix made a new game but with the same elements that people love from each game then they would hit the jackpot. instead, they seem to change the things that people enjoy from one game to the next and end up with a barely recognisable formula for a final fantasy game.

I'm as big of fan of FF7 as the next person is, but this remake looks fantastic. I personally don't think SE want to risk using the old combat system in fear of not attracting new fans and in keeping with today's style they've opted for a fast paced experience, which does sadden me in some respect.

I must have plunged a good 100 hours on my first run when it was first released and just over 150 hours some years later full completion. The lore, reading text and TBC made you pace the game and last longer so I wonder how many hours of content the remake will have.

I hope they add in more lore like Before Crisis and Crisis Core.

Still says "Play it first on Playstation 4" at the end, Still looking good for a multiplatform release.

The cost of producing a game like this you would be insane not to make it multi platform especially now that PC, XBOX, PS4 use the same fundamental hardware.

I just hope they make it so you can skip spell animations. When my mate showed me Knights of the Round attacked for the first time it looked really impressive (given there was nothing like this for the Sega Saturn which I had at the time) but got tedious after the 5th time of casting.

Or Knights of the Round -> W-Summon -> Mine -> Mime -> Snooze fest / Tea making time.
