(Be warned, the teaser contains part of the ending sequence to FFXIII, so if you haven't finished the game yet, don't watch!)

Final Fantasy XIII-2? is an upcoming console role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Due to be released in Japan in 2011 and North America as well as Europe in Winter 2011/2012, it is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. The game will once again feature Lightning as the main character. Square Enix Europe has said that the game "exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect", with its every aspect being evolved including the battle system.

The team responsible for Final Fantasy XIII is at the helm, including director Motomu Toriyama. According to RPGSite, it has a new character with FFXIII protagonist Lightning.

Toriyama took to the stage at a Square Enix press conference to debut a short trailer, according to Andriasang. Development is said to be progressing well. The team is "working so that the game serves as the answer to the opinions they received about FFXIII".

While you're right, it'd be hard for them to make it worse than XIII, the general rule of thumb these days seems to be that Square Enix just don't do good games anymore.
They just need to cut the first 20 hours, make the villain better, add some cities, add minigames and most importantly add a Gold Saucer V2 with Chocobo racing :p

I for one, really enjoyed FFXIII. Yes it wasn't the big sprawling world of the previous games, but the storyline was good, the battle system was great, and I just enjoyed playing it.

So I am looking forward to exploring more of Pulse (as we only saw a very small portion of what appears to be a huge planet!).

i wont hold my breath just yet ;) but I must admit, this is the first time i've heard lightning will be involved in any way - intersted to find out who the other characters have been in previous trailers since as main characters they looked kinda badass and I was excited then :p lol

Don't think I will even bother tbh, I played 30 hours of the last one and just got fed up. This won't be any better, You all know it won't

Give me XIII vs already! (anyone actually heard any news on that btw? I've not heard anything in a long time)

Same here. Got to the open/monster hunting landscape near the end, and just thought it was too little, too late. Actually, I thought it was too much too late. I just wanted the damn game to be over by that point.

There's a part of me that really wants to believe that this will be more like a classic, rewarding FF. But you're quite probably right. It'll be more of the same linear, auto battle to win grind.

As already discussed in the main FFXIII thread, I can't wait for this sequal as I really liked the story and the world behind the game, so understanding more about the history and the future of the Cocoon humans on Pulse is something I am looking forward to. Especially now that they have reverted to a classic medieval fantasy setting, wierd but logical, and Lightning looks to be taking on some sort of guardian type role.

As for Versus XIII, the extended gameplay trailer for that looks to be ****ing awesome. Kingdom Hearts-style gameplay as to be expected, but graphically the game looks very good. I still go by the theories that this game is a massive timeline prequal in the Pulse world.

I just hope that they've learnt from the mistakes in the previous game.

- More exploration
- Less repetitive battles/environment
- characters that you actually care about
- a plot that doesn't seem cobbled together without a definite direction

Honestly it be silly not to, otherwise what is the point of the XIII compliation if they are not related more consistently, and especially when they produced previous efforts like FFVII and the Ivalice Alliance, which expanded their respective worlds and history.

FFVII was a simple affair since all it's games were set only a few years apart and so to form an exanpaded story, whilst the Ivalice Alliance was quite difficult to place since it was convoluted, but they still managed to make the games relate to Vagrant Story (FFXII being the ancient pre-history as far as we know).
