If you set the fenrir to low speed its very quiet and cools pretty well. If you want the best air cooling with low noise get the TRUE with one (or 2) noctua NF-P12 fans.

Tbh im more tempted by the £1 more for a 500gb seagate 7200.12. 500gb single platter, gotta be pretty rapid.

Storage space isn't a huge concern because we have about 8tb served across the house with the 'important' stuff on.

Interesting read, I wasn't aware such a technique exists. I don't think its really practical for me though, thats a lot of lost storage!

depends how much short stroking you go for, I've just done some maths and you can reduce the travel of the hdd head by 50% for a 25% storage loss
