Well it's one week till i can finally order my new setup, and this is what i've got so far. What are people's thoughts?

Silverstone Fortress FT02B Gaming Case - Black
XFX ATI Radeon HD 6870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Asus X58 Sabertooth TUF Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit - OEM (GLC-00736)
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel (KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX)
BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P8 650W Modular Power Supply

Akasa SATA-3 100cm Rounded Data Cable (Right-Angle Connectors) Arctic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound (4g)
Akasa SATA-3 50cm Rounded Data Cable x 4

In terms of what i'll be using this for, there will be quite a bit of CAD/Rendering involved and quite a bit of maxed-out gaming involved.

If anyone can see anywhere i can trim a bit of money here and there, or better components (i dont mind spending more for better quality stuff) please point it out.

very good, all the parts are spot on.

only question is do you need win7 ultimate? will home edition do the same job?

I guess home could do the same job. Will have to look into that a bit more. For some reason i always go for the Ultimate editions just cos... well they're Ultimate right?

Still, i'm suprised there's no other comments. Seems usually there's a suggested better component etc in other threads of this kind!

Edit: Will 50cm SATA cables be long enough to reach from the SATA ports on the motherboard to the HDDs?

to be honest, that is a fairly poor excuse to go ultimate. You could save a fair bit by going to home if you don't need any of the other features.
