After much browsing and enquiries on this forum, my christmas bonus is to be one of the following:

Samsung 223bw or Samsung 226bw. I am aware of the panel lottery as regards the 226bw. I don`t want to waste any time with that here. ;)

So, i would consider myself a casual gamer, mostly sports and driving. Don`t watch many movies on PC, mainly music DVD`s etc. Am I wasting the extra going for the 226? Is the panel any "better" in the 223, even though it is slightly slower?

Would i notice the 2 - 5ms difference with the games i play?

Coming from a 19" CRT btw.

Need to order today, as our party is on Saturday, and bonus handouts :D:D

I have just gone TFT from 19inch CRT (Iiyama Vision Master Pro 453) and after much reading I took the plunge and went with this.

Theres a massive thread here on it, and most of us are loving this monitor.

If the can afford the extra few quid have a look at that thrread.
Posts like this have a lot of info in.

Like you I was looking at the Samsung models, but you dont really get a lot more space as 22 widescreen is about same hight as 19 4:3 hightwise.
I know you get more wide.
Someone in that thread made a good argument for going with this over the 22 Samsung, and I'm glad I took their advice.

The debate for the Samsung started versus this started here to save you looking all the way through.
Damonic started it a bit down that page, and then we have a few responses. (a few pages in fact)

Have a read and see what you think as both make valid points, but it seems the OCUK one has a far superior panel.
Big decision this....I know how you feel.
The size calculator is here.

Good luck with the money if you decide this is the one.

the only real difference between the SM223BW and SM226BW is that they use RTC / overdrive on the 226BW to boost the responsiveness. This does actually make a reasonable difference in practice, and is easy to see when turning the overdrive control in the OSD from "on" to "off". If you're only a casual gamer, you probably don't need this, but it wouldn't hurt either!

Thanks Baddass.

I really like the look of the Samsungs, and they seem to suit most of my requirements. I have to admit though, I am becoming more & more tempted by the OcUK 24". I just need to check that it will fit on my desk.

For once, i actually have a rig that could run a large monitor, and i feel obliged to use that power :D

Just worried that it may be too big. Mind you, the quality control on the Samsungs worries me also.

Seriously guys, i have been at this for weeks. Buying a monitor used to be easy.

I must have identified 6-8 different models, only to change my mind when investigating further. Perhaps thats the problem.

I was the same....I had a list that kept changing.
I got my daughter a flat panel (19 inch HP job)
It made me realise just how clear they are, but at native resolution the text is so small.
When I knocked it down, it loses clarity.
That got me thinking I wouldn't be getting much more with 22inch samsung, and I read a post in that thread that says the OCUK one runs well at non native resolution so I took the plunge.
It was a good move, and I'm loving it.

I had my concerns over games, but it seems OK.
I still play older games (original Half Life etc) and its fine given the age of this game.
