This is the setup I'm getting at the moment, (I'll be recycling PSU, HDD's and Disc drive from the last setup)

i5 2500k
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68
Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 DualChannel
GTX 460 1GB Super OC (recycled from last setup)

I'm pretty happy with that, however, straight after Christmas, I will be looking to upgrade the graphics card...

I am in the £230 budget for a new one. Suggestions?

Evidence would be nice too, but not needed.

Thanks in advance!

keep the card until new 560ti and 7k series arrives then decide on what card

cpu+mobo+ram looks ok as many people have suggested that already.
you could also get the red ripjaws for lower voltage and price provided that it will fit with ur cooler

the new 560ti is said to be released on the 29th and december or q1 2012 for the 7k

if its only stock cooler it should fit. the height of the heat spreaders on ripjaws can pose a problem on massive coolers

Wait until the new 7000 series are out but you always have the option of sli 460 which should out perform basically every single card option :)

So getting another gtx 460 would outperform all the cards on the market atm? In games, not just in benchmarks?

Also, are SLi mother boards supposed to work like this? :

1 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
1 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x8 (PCIEX8)

The 16X will drop to 8X when a second card is detected in the second slot. Thats actually where the second slot gets its bandwidth from...the top slot.

Ah OK, thanks for clearing that up for me.

So, 2x Gtx 460 1GB Super OC + more OC = Faster than lets say.. GTX 580?

Also, if I did put the GTX 460 1GB in SLI, would I have to get the exact same model of the card? Or could I get a different brand GTX 460 1GB?

As long as the memory capacity is identical it doesn't matter.

Even if the clock speeds are slightly different, the faster card is auto adjusted by the driver to the slower card.

would be better than the one mickeyfinn suggested, the one he suggested is a microatx(i.e. smaller) and you're better of with an atx. the spacing between the pci-e slots is better on the z68xp-ud3 compared to the z68ma-d2h so the temps will be better on the graphics cards as better airflow. suprised stulid didn't suggest it ;)

oh and would sugest getting a 3rd party air cooler such as the gelid tanquilo
