The monitor comes with speakers built in so I'm going to use them until I've saved up for a proper set of speakers. Will the monitor or the motherboard come with the cables I need to do this or will I need to buy speaker cables seperately?

Also, for building it will I just need one crosshead screwdriver?

Thanks everyone!

Ok, that is a crosshead yeah?

If I order tommorow morning what time should I expect the stuff to arrive on thursday? Cheers.

Yep, phillips is crosshead. You can just as easily do it with a flatheaded screwdriver of the requisite size, I've built more or less every PC I've made with a flatheaded screwdriver that I got from a Christmas cracker. :)

The delivery time depends on your local depot.

Everything looks good, some monitors come without cables but they tend to say specifically if they don't have them. You can always buy a DVI cable pretty cheaply now anyway.

Oh, so a DVI cable would carry the sound and picture signals while a analogue input would only carry the picture? Is that what you are saying?
I wouldn't need seperate speaker cables if I used a DVI link from vid card to monitor?

cheers

Not quite, a DVI cable is for video only also. They come in 3 flavours - DVI-A which is analogue only, DVI-D which is digital only and DVI-I which is both digital and analogue.

What I was trying to say is that some monitors will come with a DVI cable(of whatever is the correct sort) and some won't, they should at least come with an analogue cable. If you don't get a DVI cable then I'd buy one later on as I personally think that they do improve picture quality but it depends on how good the digital - analogue convertor is in the monitor. The folks in the monitors forum are far more knowledgeable than me on this area, Baddass is especially clued up. :)

AFAIK hdmi carries picture and sound.

Sorry I didn't twig at first that the monitor has an inbuilt speaker, the monitor will come with the necessary cable to connect the internal speaker to the soundcard(inbuilt on the motherboard here). The sound is likely to be pretty poor for anything other than casual listening though at only 2w.

If you have a spare hifi knocking about then you could connect that up pretty easily, for mine I just use a phono-3.5mm headphone jack and it is great but it depends on the connections you have I suppose. :)

Yeah I have a HiFi with a AUX part so once the computer is all set up i'll look to using my hifi for sound, just using the monitor's speakers initially until i have the time to work out what cables to get so i can use my hifi.

Cheers to everyone for help

Sorry, final question: is this the DVI cable I should go for
OcUK Value Single Link DVI Cable 1m (CB-000-OK)

The 1m part isn't a problem for me so is that the right cable?

ARGHH!! The case has gone out of stock and says 1-3days!!!
If I place my order today will they wait until the case is in stock and then send everything out together? Or would I get two seperate deliveries? I want to order soon while the cpu and cooler are in this week only.

Cheers.

The cable should be fine although I don't know whether it is DVI-A(bit unlikely I think), DVI-D or hopefully DVI-I.

I think that OcUK normally wait until everything is together before they send it out but I'm not 100% on that matter, the best thing to do is either phone them up and ask or send a webnote. If you order before the prices change then they should honour the prices I believe but legally until they accept the order they are not committed.
