Is it worth going for a more expensive cooler? I will overclock, how much more would I get with a silver arrow?

Also should I go for this card or a branded 6950 and try and unlock?

Thanks, I would like to buy today :D

I do have PSU, drives etc. so not forgetting them and plenty good enough

Looks good, do you need 16GB of RAM? It's probably overkill for gaming!

I'm afraid I don't know much about unlocking the 6950s, but I'm fairly sure a Silver Arrow will allow a better overclock and even if not it should be quieter as it won't be working so hard :)

I'm not sure about the 16gb I certainly munch through 4gb easily enough for work so thought may as well go whole hog, may be I should go 8gb and switch to SA for about the same outlay

depends if you want to overclock further than 4.6ghz as that's the tranquilos limit from what I've read, the silver arrow etc will allow for 4.8ghz+

only the sapphire 6950 toxic which ocuk currently have for £270 is anywhere near guaranteed to unlock(well not guaranteed but much higher chance) than the other 6950s. saying that the new 7xxx series cards are just around the corner.

don't you get free shipping?

I will get free shipping, I guess it's not properly logged in.

I'm not waiting for the 7000 cards based on limited time for me to build and play, need to seize the moment. Any thoughts on the OcUK 6970? as it's about the same price as the Toxic 6950

will certainly get the SA then. I'm moving from watercooling so like a bit of headroom and would like a good clock (my Q6600 was at 3.6 24/7 but was happy enough at 3.9 for benchies)

Fair enough :) Seems fine to me then. Maybe you would want to get a 2TB Hard drive as well for £100 whilst they're on offer.

Actually just a thought but if I did go nvidia i could use one of my existing 8800gtx or even a passive ATI card I have just to output to the third monitor.

Is there any reason (other than heat) why that would be bad?

Drop to 8gb ram unless u really really need it... Silver arrow would b a good cooler choic too .

Pay the extra for the retail CPU.. If u decide to go ivy ridge next year you will have a goods lung point and a stock cooler to offer too

I didn't get around to making the purchase today as I've been in non stop meetings so will be grabbing tomorrow.

Any view on perhaps going Nvidia and using one of my 8800gtx as a second card for a second monitor (and physx for what it's worth) - as opposed to going the ATI route.
