Yours thoughts and suggestions on these specs for my new gaming rig :

Intel Core i7 4770k

Gigabyte G1.SNIPER Z87

Teamgroup Vulcan 8GB 2400MHz

Saphire R280x Toxic 3GB

WD 1TB

Toshiba 128GB SSD

Samsung DVD Re-Writer 24x

Coolermaster Centurion 6

Corsair Builder Series 600w

What would your budget be for the two (approximately)?

Some cases:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Cooler Master CM-690 II Advanced USB3.0 Dominator Case - Black/White £83.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black (CC-9011017-WW) £78.95
1 x Antec P100 Mid Tower Silenced Computing Case £74.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
Total : £331.99 (includes shipping : £20.10).

And coolers:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060009-WW) £99.95
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £93.95
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Black £69.98
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler £49.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler £29.99
Total : £353.46 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Compatability: only the Cooler Master case will fit the Phanteks cooler. The Corsair case will fit the h100i/h105 or the Alpenfohn cooler. The Ronin and the Antec cases will fit all the coolers listed apart from the Phanteks.

budget is about £70 for case and whatever it takes for a decent cooling setup.

Both the corsair carbide 300R and the Bitfenix Ronin look good. will these cases support cross fire ?

They will indeed. There's also a non-windowed version of the 300r for £65, but it's out of stock at the moment.

If you're interested in crossfire you'll need a bigger PSU. Obviously it'll cost you a bit more now, but it's better than having to buy a new PSU if you do decide to add another 280X.

EDIT: Fitting an h105 in the Ronin and the 300r might be a bit tight, actually - it has a thicker radiator than the h100i.

hey thanks for letting me know bout the cases. i think i'll be going with the 300R, try and get my hands on a non-windowed one.

I was thinking about the cooler and I might be sticking with the stock cooler for the moment as i'm looking to start overclocking after a month or so. You think this is a good idea or shall i get a better cooler setup right now ? Also the i7-4770k comes with a stock cooler right ? :)

so if i decide on crossfire say 6 months down the line, in that case which PSU should i go for ?

Perfectly sensible idea if you won't be overclocking off the bat anyway. The stock cooler is capable enough, if a little noisy. The boxed retail version of the 4770k comes with a stock cooler and 3 years warranty; the OEM version has no cooler and 1 year warranty:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £269.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £249.95
Total : £529.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

And some PSUs for crossfire:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 750 '80+ Gold' 750W Power Supply (CP-9020055-UK) £119.99
1 x Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £109.99
1 x NZXT Hale Power 90+ 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £107.99
Total : £351.47 (includes shipping : £11.25).

yeah i think ill be rocking the stock cooler until i start messing with overclocking :)

so it looks like i'll be needing 750w PSU if i wanna do xfire in the future. the seasonic looks good though.

had another question about the ram. If i do overclocking and get a decent cooler and im also doing xfire will i need to get low profile RAM or is the one i put in my specs good enough ?

ok Martini1991 i see what your getting at. I shud get an i5 4670k (you mean i5 right ?) and overclock this to 4.whatever GHz and put the money in the R290. I'm guessing for gaming (far cry 3, skyrim, bf4) the CPU doesnt matter as much as the GPU. Is this right ? Also I heard that the R290 are noisey like hell, is this true ?

at £1200 id definitley want a better gpu than a 280x! i wont do a full spec since id just be parroting what others have posted by now most likely

also +1 for Bitfenix Ronin

He has a point but as you CAN afford both you may aswell get both, the 4770k (i7) will help when titles start to ultilise multi-core technology. Its already starting to happen/.

The Reference 290's were noisey, the aftermarket 290, like the windforce are pretty quiet and cooler than the reference version a great choice of card.
