Final thoughts before ordering on monday

I like that you are styling the build but would it not make sense to maybe use a windowed case to show it off perhaps?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Windowed Case - Black £69.98
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Windowed Case - Black £59.99
Total : £143.17 (includes shipping : £11.00).

That tall RAM is just causing aggro in my eyes. I did use the Geil dragon RAM which looks quite "swish", it's CAS11 whereas the Kingston Genesis I used in the midi-tower build is CAS9.....in truth it doesn't make much odds in the real world but the lower the CAS the better technically.

Unfortunately the case can't really be seen under my desk, the style and making it tidy would be just for me to look at when I open the case to clean it or maybe show it off to my mates. I'm one of those people that likes to have and know that everything (I own) is clean and looks good. Could be OCD but I rather just call it the need to have all my stuff tidy ;)

Although that windowed Shinobi is nice and very well priced.

Take the 300R if you're going with the TFIII.
The Shinobi is much better suited to cards like the IceQ that exhaust from the rear due to it's fairly poor cooling.
I had overheating issues with a Shinobi and an OC'd 7950 dumping it's heat into the case. And that was with plenty of fans.

I don't think it's OCD. I must confess I do try and make my specs look "tidy" providing it doesn't impact on the price too much.

The windowed Shinobi comes with two fans. The core editions have none (you're supposed to "pimp" them with extras), the standard non windowed Shinobis have just one 120mm fan installed.

I hope we aren't teaching you to suck eggs but I do like discussing the options so other readers can learn as they go :)

Yea think I'm definitely sticking with the TFIII, so I take the 300R is the case for me.

Thanks for all those detailed explanations and specs I do appreciate them, think I will stick with 300R for this build as I've had my heart set on it since the start.

That's perfectly fine, even I'm learning with these discussions and with reading other people's threads.

I was reading and looking at some videos and the Phanteks TC14 seems to be better than the Alpenfohn K2. Provides better cooling, god now I have three coolers to consider.. :(

The 300R is definitely the better choice of the two :)
If you like the look of the Shinobi, a good alternative would be the Xigmatek Midgard II. It offers better ventilation and internal features than the Bitfenix case with very similar looks.

EDIT: The Phanteks is awesome, but is only a couple of degrees cooler and you may have fitting issues.

Clearance height in the 300r. It'll be very tight if it does go in and even though your ram isn't tall, it may be tall enough to prevent you getting the front fan low enough to clear the side panel.

Little bump for help!

One of my dads friends just gave me two Corsair AF140 fans and two AF120 (low noise) which are all new. He also gave me a Lamptron FC6 fan controller which he had in his old build before upgrading.

Now the question is, how do I go about setting these fans up in my 300R case, like where should I put the two 140's then the two 120's. Also I'm getting the H80i as my cpu cooler.

The fan controller will be powered by molex connector from the PSU, your fans can plug directly into the controller so you can adjust them.

I would put the controller in the top optical bay. If you put the DVD drive at the top, the tray could be hampered by any USB cables you plug into the front USB ports when it opens ;)

Where you put the fans is down to you, the case can have two 140mms fans at the front. I wouldnt use a CLC cooler personally but if you want one fair enough. If it's mounted at the rear of the case the rad could well block you putting a fan above it in the ceiling of the case, the next fan space over will be fine for adding another fan for exhaust.

You'll just have to tinker and see what you like when you start building. If the fans had been the SP (static pressure) versions it might have been worth swapping the H80i fans with them but as they are AP fans they are better suited to being case mounted.

Hope this helps, look forward to seeing your build complete :)

I see thanks for that, ok I'll make sure I place the fan controller on top of the optical drive. It probably would have made sense to put it in that order anyways, since its easier to locate it and use it whilst the case is under the desk.

Alright I will play around and see where to put the fans, thinking for the two 140's just to put them on the front and take off the one that comes with the case. For one of the 120's I could mount one to the side and the other on the top? For those should the side and top one push or pull air?

Would it be worth me getting two sp120 for the h80i, or just I just leave the stock ones for now?

I will definitely post it up when it's completed :D

I really wouldn't bother buying more fans to replace the ones on the CLC. It's just adding to the expense, honestly I'd rather use a decent air cooler as it's better value and performance but it's your build your rules buddy :)
