Ok so I've finally got myself a job interview tomorrow for part time temp work, which is better then nothing. Its in admin / data entry. Now I ofc have decades of computer experiance and live in front of the keyboard but have been turned down for data entry roles before cause of lack of experiance, so I'm dying to get my foot on the ladder in this job.
Looking through the email theres a requirement at the agency to do some "two computer based assessments" before I can begin. Does anyone know exactly what this kind of thing would involve? Is it something I could practise for?
I know I have to get my touch typing up to scratch anyhow as I'm not 100% on it yet lol and make some stupid spelling mistakes!

it will be a word type count, and maybe some MS package aptitude test or general computer literacy.. something like that?

dunno, wait and see :p

good luck

Well that doesnt sound too painful. I can type fast, just maybe about 95% accurate! As for MS packages I have a list of CLAIT awards for such things :)

Yeah there are often typing tests. My advice: memorise the first sentence or two before you start as the clock starts ticking when you start typing!

Hmm the more I think about it the more curious I am about that. I found it via the job centre machines, and it said it was via an agency. I emailed my cv to the email addy on the sheet and they replied with this saying which job I'm applying for, a basic phone interview, and could I please fill in these forms. I think this agency is getting me the job but not before I've signed up with them so they get a cut?

My mate had 2 computer tests the other day besides other stuff he had to do.
One was the words in Word all being over to the left so he just slid the margin back and the other was line spacing in Publisher, he set it back to 1.
My daughter was tested a bit back and they asked her to insert a picture, change a header into bold and change other words into a colour.

Hmm, do they need you to be standing on your hands doing this with your feet? Or bash your head against a desk 10 times first? Or perhaps you have to go without sleep for 5 days before hand? Those tests seam somewhat simplistic lol. Reckon I should def ace the lot!

The company approached the agency looking for staff. They'll pay them a certain rate per hour, lets say £6. The agency will then pay you out of that and take a cut, so you'll end up with £5. The cut depends on the agency and the job. I used to work in a professional agency and it wasn't unheard of to take 80% of the cut!

The hope is that after a bit the company will then employ you directly. To do this, they have to effectively 'buy' you off the temping agency.

As for the tests, it'll be a typing test (slow down a bit and get the 100% accuracy) - I went in for a test once and I was the fastest they had on their books at 85wpm but I had slowed down to ensure 100%. Purely based on my speed, I got a job. You'll also have a basic Word test and perhaps an Excel/Outlook. Simple stuff, anyone that is on here could do them.

Best o' luck!
