Finally a reason to leave the EU

I think the biggest problem with this whole EU debate is that the most anti-EU, frothing at the mouth UKIP voters seem to think that it's not just about being in or out of the EU, they seem to think that leaving the EU will return the country to 'the good old days', turning back the clock on such crazy ideas as tolerating black people and not wanting gays to be killed.

Leaving the EU isn't going to make the UK relevant on the global stage again, it would be a terrible mistake.

Are they ******* joking. We all bother about conservation and emission reduction in the EU, yet the rest of the world are mostly too ignorant to care?

Yes they are, and its a good thing. Its one of the many positives about being in the eu.
At the moment there is no criteria to actually be a decent Hoover. Therefore manufactures just put a large wattage motor in and nothing else.
The new regulations will ensure hoovers actually work as hoovers and pick dust up.
Which ever way you look at it, this is a positive change for everyone.

The actual regulation
Specific Ecodesign requirements
Vacuum cleaners shall comply with the following requirements:
(a) From 1 September 2014:
— annual energy consumption shall be less than 62,0 kWh/year,
— rated input power shall be less than 1 600 W,
— dust pick up on carpet (dpuc) shall be greater than or equal to 0,70. This limit shall not apply to hard floor vacuum cleaners,
— dust pick up on hard floor (dpuhf) shall be greater than or equal to 0,95. This limit shall not apply to carpet vacuum cleaners.
These limits shall not apply to water filter vacuum cleaners.
(b) From 1 September 2017:
— annual energy consumption shall be less than 43,0 kWh/year,
— rated input power shall be less than 900W,
— dust pick up on carpet (dpuc) shall be greater than or equal to 0,75. This limit shall not apply to hard floor vacuum cleaners,
— dust pick up on hard floor (dpuhf) shall be greater than or equal to 0,98. This limit shall not apply to carpet vacuum cleaners,
— dust re-emission shall be no more than 1,00 %,
— sound power level shall be less than or equal to 80 dB(A),
— the hose, if any, shall be durable so that it is still useable after 40 000 oscillations under strain,
— operational motor lifetime shall be greater than or equal to 500 hours.

So all new hoovers will actually be good at picking up and trapping dust. Unlike now, where theres zero regulations.

Oh and this
If you really think losing big financial institutions is a positive thing, you're deluded

I don't get it.... What's the reason in the OP for leaving the EU???

something about not getting enough suction from a 1600W hoover ;)

im not in a position to have a good understanding of the pros and cons, this is a problem with democracy, people not having a clue jumping on a propoganda bandwagon..hold on, propaganda? ..past events?..hmm

think it would be bad overall

If they have a department that deals with european union specific trades from within the EU then it would/might make sense to move that department. I don't think many businesses will have the same sort of department specific to the eu. The benefit that department would most likely receive by moving would be in the forms of regulations and taxes. ie they would be regulated differently if they were operating within the eu than outside.

There has been a lot of people recently in the press, that have said that there would be disaster if the uk left the eu but i rarely if ever hear any reason why it would be disaster. Even this article just says that they would do it, it does not explain why they would do it.

Taking banking as an example;
London is the banking capital of europe. An awful lot of UK jobs, exports, and tax revenue is down to banking.

Say UK leaves EU.... EU will, for strategic and monetary security reasons, want to bring it's banking operations in house. It will do this by adding costs to operating across the EU border (transaction taxes, for example), and offer incentives for companies to move their business within. Since the London banking industry does so much of its business with Europe, it's a sensible move to transfer to EU offices. Non-EU trade is unaffected either way.

Companies that can afford and have the capacity to move some operations to location within the eurozone to benefit from any regulatory benefits they might find by operating within the eu will do so. That does not mean that there won't be or can't be benefits for operating outside of the eu in the uk. I doubt financial organisations would move out of the uk completely, they would be foolish to abondon uk operations just so that they could be in the eu. It would just be up to the UK to make operating in the UK more beneficial then operating in the eu.

I think there will be organisations that will completely move to the eu and there will be organisations that will want to move to the uk as a result. I am yet to hear any actual reason why leaving the eu would be result in less jobs in the uk.

I just gave you a reason. You can brush it off, but by what mechanism would jobs come to uk to replace those lost?

I was not disagreeing with you. I almost repeated what you said to some extent. I was going to edit the post but i start typing a new post before i had refresh. Then I refreshed and saw what you posted and typed what i was going to say out anyway.

What jobs would be lost? I know the jobs at the £280 million uk EU building would be lost...

I don't really like the EU but it's a neccesary evil. [..]

Likewise. I think it could be done better, but I think that it's the less bad option even in its current form, even though it's a union that's far from unified.

I really do hope the conservatives win a majority and we get this stupid referendum so we can see once and for all that the vast majority of the UK (yes UK, because scotland won't do anything stupid either) want to stay in the EU.

We all like a moan but tbh the shape of our bananas and wattage of our vacuum cleaners isn't worth much compared to our jobs.

Seeing as in the north east it feels like we have been stuck in the recession over 5 years i welcome leaving the EU, i dont think it could get any worse up here anyway.

You have more faith in the public than me.
I hope there is no refrendum on eu. Most people dont have a clue about anything. Which is one reason why democracy is so crap. People need to realise they dont know everything and have to accept preoffesional opinion.
I agree scotland refrendum wont win though. Small vocal group, but the majority dont seem to want it, which is good, there's no way in this day and age should be taking massive steps backwards.
The vacume is a good example, of people getting kn ickers in a twist and dont have a clue what it actually is, or how it is nothing but a good thing.

NE is a net receiver of EU funds, plus you are more likely to be an exporter, again benefiting from EU membership.

I recommend as a natural labour supporter you put your faith in the most right wing of conservatives and UKIP (a hard line right wing conservative off shoot).

I'd love for miliband to decide to support an EU referendum to finally destroy any credibility he had left.

If they vote no, would I be able to leave to live in an EU country before anything was done, and be able to stay after?

I'm wondering it would be a no, how does this effect the millions of british who have gone to the EU?

Is the German post not a privatised DHL service? One of the most efficient postal services in Europe.

What do you mean by a privatised DHL service? Deutsche Post bought DHL if that's what you mean? The point I was making wasn't about the value of privatising postal services but rather about the way Goldman Sach's mismanagement of the Royal Mail IPO which resulted in taxpayers being short changed.

What do you think the brits did before there was an EU

Talk about over reacting. Oh and we exported more to European countries before we joined the EU, don't let facts get in the way.

Deutsche Post (or Deutsche Post DHL) is a privatised company. Why mention it at all if your point was not about it?
