Right im on o2 im been looking at a few phones and still have no idea what phone to get
heres a list of the main ones iv been looking at

HTC Desire HD - poor sound and poor ring volume
HTC Desire Z - Poor Specs
Motorola Milestone 2 - at the min this one is winning
Galaxy S - not as good as the HTC Desire HD i think?

can anyone add any thing to the mix or any advise on whats the better phone

Wait a little while for dual core phones. Even if you buy one of the ones you listed... they will have gone down a bit in price :) .

Desire HD is probably best out of the lot. Though if you want a hardware keyboard Desire Z is almost as good, you can overclock the CPU easily if you root it (to the same as Desire HD or more on most!).

I agree, its a very unlucky time to run out of contract. if you find something to use for a month or so you should wait for galaxy s 2, LG x2, or Motorola atrix.

but if you have to pick one of those I'm sure the cpu in the galaxy s is quicker than the desire HD. but the HD does come with sense ui & bigger screen.

The screens not as good as the Galaxy S, nor is the hardware but it has a slightly larger screen and is a lot more intuitive to use in the menus etc. It also has been confirmed to be getting android 2.3 around June so an impending update is coming in a few months.

Galaxy S - not as good as the HTC Desire HD i think?

Faster than the Desire HD and has a much better quality screen, but it lacks the quality feel of the HD and has a slightly inferior user interface. Spec wise its one of the best around at the min but user interface and quality of feel wise it has a bit to go.

Motorola Milestone 2 - at the min this one is winning

I do not see why this is winning, it packs an old style CPU which whilst it clocks faster than the Desire Z it actually runs slightly slower. The Milestone also has an SGX530 GFX card, which is a very old standard of card now that is starting to show its age, especially with the new devices coming shortly. The User Interface is horrid, I kid you not, motoBLUR is possibly the worst UI to be put on an android phone, slow laggy and generally it doesnt run as well as samsungs touchwiz or HTCs SenseUI. To be honest I dont see why this is in the running.

HTC Desire Z - Poor Specs

Right, poor specs? Ill stress what I said above. The Desire Z is a newer gen CPU than the milestone, so whilst having a slower clock speed its actually a bit quicker and has a much much better GFX card for gaming. It has the same UI as the Desire HD which is nice and simple to use and is probably the best looking UI to be found on a stock android handset. It also is confirmed to be getting Android 2.3 around June.

To be fair if you want a qwerty keyboard then the Desire Z is your choice, infact its pretty much your only logical choice to buy right now. If you dont want a keyboard then theres a world of highly specced phones out there, with the Desire HD and Galaxy S possibly being 2 of the more respected handsets alongside the Nexus S and original Desire (old handset but some awesome deals avaialable on contract).

Hope ive been of some use :)

Galaxy S is an awkward one... it is technically superior but there is so much more (modding) support for other phones. Lots of other android phones are very similar to eachother so mods are common between them, unlike the Galaxy S which needs specific support for some things to work.

Galaxy S is the best. I own one and my mates have phone envy :)
They all went for the desire because they were told it was better by people on the internet.

thanks helps a lot
dose the Desire Z do eveything the HD dose ????
and ok i realy did think the milestone 2 was faster due to it having the same clock speed as the HD & S plus a dedicated GFX

This should help you (click).

The Desire Z has the same processor as the HD, just at a lower clock speed. So once overclocked it will equal the HD in performance. Both therefore have the graphics chip built into the CPU, approx double the graphics power of the original Desire. The ONLY thing the Z has as a downfall is a bit less RAM, but I don't think that would impact you on a daily basis. The main things to consider are: 1) do you want a hardware keyboard of the Z? 2) do you want a larger screen of the HD?

Milestone 2...

Ouch, think I need to defend the Milestone 2's hardware here. The OMAP 3630 is TIs 45nm update, so parts like the SGX530 are overclocked and puts gpu performance very close to the Adreno 205 found in the Z/DHD.
The A8 cpu core is still fast and power efficient too, the Z/DHD scorpion core is certainly the fastest around but you'll see little real world app/browser/OS difference.
Oh yeah, it also has the best/highest ppi IPS screen on Android :) A real gem.

As for MotoBlur? Nope, can't defend that bloat :D Although Motorola's OS build is super stable.

So, if you want 'out the box' usability? defiantly the Z/DHD (love senseUI) but with a new launcher and root the MS2 will be just as good :)

Personally, I'd wait a few months and swap to a rolling contact until the SGS2 comes out.

Why not wait for a month or 2 and get a brand new shiney dual core phone, I know I would be kicking myself if I just got a brand new phone and it was out of date within a month.
