Finally found a cheap-to-insure car.. Ford Ka

No full license. Provisionally im going to use instructors car and put myself down on my mums 1.2punto for a month.

My post code is terrible, Everyone in my class at collage can beat any quote i get by £500 usually just because they live in posh places! no fair.

Its not even like where i live it that rough.. :(

Ah, 17 usually a ***** to insure, I'd try quoting at 18 see if that changes much, by the time you pass, etc might be wise to wait till then. Also try it also saying that you've had a licence for 1 year+ it should drop a good bit.

I'd pick the Corsa over the KA, I'd rather walk than drive a wussy car. :D

I'm assuming you are doing fully comp quotes?

You might want to think about getting a total banger for a year, just with TPFT, then upgrade your car when you have 1 years ncb

Have you tried adding other people as named drivers? I knocked off a fair amount from my insurance this year by adding my sister and parents. Anyone with no previous claims, with a few years experience driving, and female tend to be best.

Joking aside, I would rather drive a Ka! With where i work It's actually unsafe to walk to the bus stop after work and i really would rather not! aha

Don't be ridiculuos! lmao. These quotes are TPFT. I've done everything i can (without totally lying and saying I'm a 40 year old female doctor with 10years NCB living in Windsor)

No i haven't. But i shall give it a go :)

1400 TPFT even for a ka - that is bad.

Keep trying aboslutely anything to get the quote down. Adding a "girlfriend" will make a big difference with certain companies as long as they have held their licence for a couple of years.

Find a 21 year old female friend who passed at 17 and ask her. It was once cheaper to put my 20 year old gf down as a friend and my 21 year old friend down as my gf than to just have my gf - spend ages fiddling with quotes - there are odd things out there!

Crikey yes this is a must, my insurance would be about 40% more expensive without a female named driver added.

1) Add a family member (parent preferably) to reduce your premium
2) Try going round lots of insurers websites manually (elephant, bell direct, prudential etc), as I found confused.com was a load of %*$*!
3) Consider waiting till you are 18
4) Remember that paying monthly often (depends on insurer) incurs extra charges

How about a Micra, Nova or an AX getting down to brass tacks. Or even a Sciecento?

If you're going to have to drive around in a slow small car, surely you're at least going to want good handling? If so, this rules out the Micra, the Nova and the AX. I've not driven a Seicento so can't comment on that, but the Ka wipes the floor with the rest in terms of fun and handling. They're like little go karts down a challenging road. Sure, they're slow what with the engine being crap however the same can be said of pretty much every alternative suggested thus far.

Adding my mum (Middle Aged Female Teacher withs lots of NCB) Increased most my quotes by £200 :(

I would do it the other way around but I saw on the news they are clamping down on parents putting insurance in their name for children and insurance companies refusing to pay up etc etc.

wait till your 18 do you really need a car ??

my brother pays £2200 to insure a clio 1.2 16v, i think he wants his head looking at

I really want a car becuase at the moment im having to get a taxi to and from work and its bloomin expensive, i just want the freedom. Anyway i really dont mind paying £1,400 for my first year. :)

Just need to get the cash together now!

Make sure you get one of the newer Kas with the duratec 1.3 and not the endura as the latter is absolutely nasty, whereas the duratec is just nasty :p

I really like the cars, I don't even mind the engine THAT much my only gripe with them is the brakes I think they're a bit poo.

That's not that bad actually - I remember getting quotes of £2k+ for a 1.1l Metro at 17 :(

The Ka is a nice car actually - the Endura engine is nasty but it's very very simple which is a bonus. I found the pedals to be very close together though so depending on how big your feet are this might be an issue

It was just a last chance saloon to save this guy some cash really.

Yeah, thats for that :) im not bothered about the car at all. As long as it works and is cheap to insure. Just until i get 1yr NCB under my belt :)

Do the Ka's come with Alarm and or Immboliser? if so what year models ?

cheers
