I've decided its the right time for me to get a ps3 as the price is about right and the games i want are starting to come out :)

I'll be getting a 40gb ps3 at the end of this month along with burnout paradise and dmc4, and also gonna order a dual shock 3 pad as well.

Just wanting to know if there was anything else i needed to get? I haven't bought a console since the last generation so not too sure on what other extras i need. I figured i won't be needing a memory card because of the hd, and i don't think i need any extra cables cos i'm only using standard tv :( and will use the scart lead from my ps2 (this will work right?).

Any other accessories i might need? Will i need extras to charge the controllers or anything like that?

Also any game recommendations will be appreciated, i'm into all game types so throw em at me :p

---- UPDATE ----

So ive finally bought my ps3 and ended up buying it online:

PS3 (40 gig)
Uncharted
Heavenly Sword
Burnout Paradise

Total: £324

Absolute bargain. I have also bought DMC4, Warhawk, Tekken DR Online, Pixeljunk Monsters and a White DS3 controller lol :D

I am absolutely loving it at the moment! I really am amazed at how quiet this thing is, i only notice it in the early hours of the morning when everything is silent and i have the tv on mute!

Really impressed with all the games so far, i've been caning burnout and playing through uncharted (which is truly stunning), putting the rest of the games on hold while i complete them.

I set up the wireless connection went a bit crazy with demo and trailer downloads, then got tversity sorted to share my videos and im really impressed with how easy it was to set up and how well it works. Also being able to stick in a memory stick and just play whatever is great! :D

So basically, excellent purchase and a huge lineup of games to come and i am very happy indeed :)

You've pretty much covered all your bases - for the controller recharging, the console comes with a USB lead that you simply plug into the pad and the console to charge up with. I'm certain the scart lead from the PS2 works also.

On the games front, get Tekken 5 DR and Warhawk off the PSN store, then try out Uncharted, Ratchet, Call of Duty 4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Orange Box. When you have the time, look into making American and Japanese accounts (free and easy to do) so you can access the PSN Store for those regions and nab demos from those regions. GT5 Prologue can be bought off the Japanese store if you have the proper credit cards for example.

For game recommendations, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Call of Duty 4, Asssassins Creed, Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance Fall of Man & Motorstorm are worthy considerations imo!

If its games you want, these are all well worth a play

The Darkness (If you can overlook the serious lack of AA)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted
Ratchet and Clank
Resistance: Fall of Man
Motorstorm
Call of Duty 4
Unreal Tournament 3
Rainbow Six: Vegas
Warhawk
Super Stardust HD
Tekken 5 Online
Oblivion
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Orange Box (If you don't have a PC)
Assassin's Creed

would personally recommend

Motorstorm
Heavenly Sword
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Ratchet & Clank

btw u folks reckon Assassins Creed is worth £25 ? (saw it in local video shop for that - used though)

edit: ohh congrats on making the right choice and getting a ps3 : wise decision :D

Not even worth a tenner imo, unless you like repetitive, linear, naff controlled gameplay that much. (maybe harsh but I really hated this game, and I only rented it for 1 month, which cost me 12 quid, and I felt ripped off!!).

I dunno theres quite a repetitive aspect to it (in terms of what you have to do in order to progress) but the free running and free roam aspects probably outweight it! Im quite enjoying it to be fair!

Thanks for all the replys so far, i'm gonna go through a load of video reviews on gametrailers shortly hehe. Tekken is gonna be a must have for me, and i'm liking the slightly gears of war-esque uncharted!

As for assassin's creed, i think its def worth at least a play through... though people are right about it being linear, i think the freedom and the fluidity of the controls is excellent as well as the storyline. Also as a bonus, the graphics are absolutely stunning!

Also, is the console or any games region free or do i have to stick with pal? same question but with blu ray films also :D

All games are region free (you would ave to import a USA copy of UT3 as it is only out in USA atm).

For Blu-Ray it is different, mixed bag, maybe 50/50.
This site helps a lot: http://bluray.liesinc.net/

UT3 is excellent btw, I am gonna play it in a while!

Games are region free so you can play imports no problem.

Blu-Ray's on the other hand are a PITA, some are region free and others are not.

Cheers for all the help guys, i seriously cannot wait haha :D

Really considering ut3 now that ive seen you can use mouse and keyboard!

There's a new bundle out on Friday a 40gb with 2 Sony published games ie ratchet uncharted etc. Retail is 350, so expect to find it less online
