Finally got a shunt on my car cam

Do people drive differently to your disliking just because they have a camera then? Have you seen how these same people drive with and without the camera attached? Strange statement to make!

Not all, but a large proportion of dashcam owners definitely drive differently with a dashcam - they go out of their way to cause issues with other drivers just so they can shout IT'S ALL ON CAMERA MATE!!! and put it in one of their YouTube compilations.

A good example of this is the guy who kept slowing down and lane hogging in front of a HGV and got forced off the road, the guy who didn't pull back in after an overtake and got hit by the Audi A7 behind - there's loads more on YouTube.

A lot of these people seem to think they're police, filming people commiting minor offences and getting all angry about something that doesn't actually affect them in any way. They're often the kinds of drivers who constantly encounter "maniacs" which is why they got a dashcam in the first place, when in reality the problem stems from their own selfish, antagonistic driving.

I'm sure there's plenty of dashcam owners who have one purely to protect themselves in the event of a crash - as I said above, I can understand why when they're so cheap nowadays.

And I never said they all put their videos on YouTube. I'm just saying that's the mentality of a lot of them - in general, if you're driving around thinking there's so many nutters around that there's a high risk of a crash, it's you who's the problem, not everyone else. It's for that exact reason that non fault insurance claims can push up your premium. You may be legally in the right, but often these things can be avoided altogether.

Wat.

Sorry dude but this is nonsense. There are thousands of dash cam owners on the roads, 99% of the time you won't know they're even there, they just go about their business and if something happens, they have footage for the insurance process.

Just because there are some of these people who do what you describe doesn't mean they all do it. Not even close.

Why do you keep posting utter drivel

You say not all then then you switch to majority

I imagine most people just stick it in there and forget about it and use it if it's needed. Whilst there are those nutters that put themselves in dangerous positions for footage, they are not the majority :confused:

I said a large proportion drive differently, not a large proportion put their footage on YouTube.

If most people do literally just use them in the event of an accident well that's excellent, I'm very happy about that. I'm personally not convinced that the average driver, if they caught something which they perceived to be very dangerous on their dashcam, wouldn't save the clip and put it online / send it to the police. I guess I just don't like the idea of it - it's the old argument of "if you obey the law then you've got nothing to worry about".

Or the old argument of "I have nothing to hide but there are others on the road who may make a mistake and crash in to me". Or wasn't that an argument?

Regardless, it is now and it makes a lot more sense than your argument of "i haz dashcam i must be polices for teh internetz nau".

My mother was stationary at traffic lights, a young driver crashed into the back of her, the driver claimed she rolled backwards, for some crazy reason, her insurance were prepared to back her as far as they dared.

My mother argued she has an automatic, it doesn't roll.

It was due to go to court until they backed down at the last minute and accepted liability.

Although it was unlikely she'd have lost the case, it caused her a lot of stress for the months it grumbled on.

This girl also had a policeman uncle who kept phoning trying to act the big man and spouting nonsense, if she had a camera she could have said "hang on, I have it on camera, I'll send you and your insurance the footage" and I bet their side would have backed down sooner.

I think most people just want to have an extra layer of protection just incase, I don't know anyone who'd go seeking trouble just for some YouTube fame. Leave that to the cyclists haha!

Friday night, a white van man cut across me to go left on a roundabout in the right lane, I have it on camera, I braked hard or he would have hit me, it would have been obvious who's fault it was but I wouldn't have let it happen just so I could say "I have it on camera"
