Finally got bitten by paypal

if i sell something that im not sure works and have no means of testing it, instead of writing sold as seen

i write sold as faulty, then theres defo no comebacks then!

Why would you sell something without testing it first? Sold as seen doesn't apply if the buyer hasn't actually seen the item yet! You can only use it if you're selling in person and the buyer has had a chance to verify they're ok with the condition. As lmfy2k says, write sold as faulty if you're not sure.

Empty your paypal account before they do the payment reversal.
It will put your account at a negative. Walk away.

Every one harping on about "sold as seen" seems to have overlooked the fact that the buyer took a screwdriver to the VCR in order to fix it. Surely after he's admitted this any chance of a refund is null and void?

Aye I'm thinking that too.

I mean if i bought a ps3 that stopped working. Then decided to go at it with a screwdriver only to give up then tell Sony GTFO I WANT MY MONEY BACK !!

I wonder what are the chances I would get my money back

Finally been bitten by Paypal buyer protection (twice in a week!)

Sold an old cctv vcr "sold as seen", buyer recieves item, can't get the rewind to work, so takes it apart, does god knows what, can't get it to work and makes a paypal claim, explaing how he agrees it was sold as seen and how he's taken it apart, and paypal STILL say he can return it for a refund!

Am I right in guessing you implied or stated that it did actually work. 'Sold as seen' is usually a disclaimer that cowboys use to rip people off.

Just to add to this. If you sell an item which you make clear is faulty, I don't believe PayPal would give a refund to the buyer if he subsequently made a claim on the basis that it didn't work.

PayPal makes ebay a safer place for buyers and a place where buyers are less likely to be ripped off by unscrupulous sellers. I have made many hundreds of sales on ebay, most of which through PayPal, and have had no such problems. But then I don't sell tat or decribe stuff which I know is broken as 'sold as seen'.

I must say I do completely agree with the "sold as seen" very dodgy.

But then tbh if i saw an item listed with "sold as seen" theres not a chance in hell I would have bidded on it so

Yes you could say tough luck, caveat emptor and the buyer should be more careful. I prefer to have a system which deters and punishes dodgy sellers who word their auctions 'carefully' to mislead. I mean if the OP had said 'I have something for sale here which is broken and useless' nobody would bid on it. I often see items which say 'untested' and 'no returns accepted' - code for 'I know damn well it is junk and broken but I hope someone will be foolish enough to bid' - that is unacceptable to me and PayPal are right to come down hard on it.

True, on the other hand you get a lot of buyers who buy things so they can "Test" it out then decide they dont want it and attempt to send it back claiming its faulty.

I had this prob with a laptop I sold a while ago on ebay. Luckily for me I had enough proof that it was in complete working order when I sent the item. But if I didnt have the proof that it was fully working. I wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Leaving him with a laptop he tested for a week and prob decided it was an impulse buy and reclaim his money back. Meanwhile I lose the money I sold the item for, I lose money for posting the item and I will have to pay once again to relist the thing.

I think it is unfair that I had to go through that much time and effort because some buyer was well basically an idiot.
