Got caught doing an illegal right-turn today, Mr policeman was waiting on his cycle, blues and twos and ended up with a nice, rather slim yellow piece of paper. £60 fine and 3 points :(

Not too sure if the attached image will work but if you move ahead there's a road that crosses the roundabout, I did my deadly manoeuvre just after the lights

I know I'm as guilty as hell but would appreciate the normal forum sympathy, in the meantime bear with me whilst I get this noose around my neck :)

All done it, only a matter of luck that i have not been caught for this very offence loads of times.

Well, although I pleaded ignorance to the officer, hoping he would let me off, I've actually been doing that right-turn-clyde manoeuvre for some 7+ years so getting a £60 fine for all those times seems like a rather good deal.

The officer said that 'people had complained' what people I thought, it's a roundabout with roads all around it so the only other people must be other motorist, damn, I now hate other drivers with a vengence :)

On a more serious note, I asked the officer and he claimed I had no need to notify my insurance company but would need to tell them come renewal, is that correct?

Slightly confused.... it's hardly worth not going round the roundabout from taking a quick peak, in fact it looks like you'd cost yourself petrol turning as you would have to get back upto speed again. Were you in traffic or something?

There are loads of lights and stops when going round the roundabout, thinking back on it, does seem hardly worth it, must have saved me all of 2 minutes each time I did this, so I ended up getting into work 2 minutes early. What was I thinking?

Anyway there's a certain level of hate lacking in this thread, so I'm going to have to ask :) any chance that I could plead for asylum and not have to take the fine and points?

P.S. Cheques already in the post

Correct me if im wrong here but isn't it at the digression of the officer on the scene wither or not he hands out points/fine or gives a warning/caution for an offence like this? if so I think he was a bit harsh.

I got the impression that babylon-on-cycle had made up his mind beforehand that he was going to be handing out fines.

Somebody in the office said that I should have pleaded complete ignorance and said that I made an honest mistake but from what I gather he was there to catch and issue tickets.

How much does having points make insurance go up? i pressume it depends on what the offence was.
So the most expensive being no insurance and speeding.

I just did a quote and adding the TS14 bumps the premium up by around 80 notes with LV :( So much for the officers comments re not affecting insurance as 3 points are common these days :(

I always look but the copper was sitting on his bike on the small triangle at the far end of the stretch of road I illegally turned into. As I made the turn I saw him but then it was too late.

In the small section ahead there was a council lorry parked which completely obstructed my view of the cop and presumably his view of me and for a fleeting mad moment I actually had this mad thought about reversing back out onto the roundabout and making a run for it :D

What does the 4 bit of the offence 'Causing Or Permitting' mean?

I don't understand why the offence wasn't a simple TS10.

Went to hand in my license and the guy on the desk didn't know either.
