Honda Hornet CB600F

Pic of it Just arrived at home and getting taken off the trailer.

More pics to follow.

One thing is odd though, it's a CB600F4 which is a 2004 model but it's registered in 2006 in the log book, of course hpi checks out and vin does too, just thought it was a little odd! could have been sat in Honda factory storage for 2 years ?

Not many mods planned tbh, just changed the indicators and maybe put a small fly screen on.

edit, new kit ordered too!

Wow, low.

I though my 2005 was low at 9,300 when I bought it!

Looks good in white. Belly pan to finish it off

Yes now you mention it, it does need one :)

Hornets are great, apart from the woeful tank range. I might have had one as a first bike if it wasn't for the tank range.

Yep, around 100 miles to a tank I think? and there is no fuel gauge, just a light that tells you to fuel up asap lol

Wow, and folk complain about the range of electric cars!
I never quite understood why bikes being way lighter than cars, smaller and less rubber on the road had such poor mpg. I mean 40 mpg could a large car!

Most bikes will get 50mpg plus.

The issue is that they'll get to 60mph in less than 4seconds. They're built for speed not mpg as most of them are used for fun. You can get sensible bikes that will do 80mpg+.

Think of it this way, a 300/400cc is akin to a normal 2litre car in terms of sensibility, enough poke but not too bad. A 600cc is like a 3 or 4 litre v6, needless but not too mental, anything higher is just needless but damn fun, just think 5 litre v8's :p

(That's not a direct comparison with car engines on performance by the way)

I think half the problem is the reserve, it's something like 6 litres when the reserve light comes on! You'll probably get 140 miles to a tank, depending how far you want to risk it :)

Similar to my bike then.

Fuel light comes on around 100-120miles with 30miles to get to a fuel station. I once got 166.90 miles so must have been on vapours as the fill up was a full 17 litres! (taken from my fuelly page)

I rode my mates a few weeks ago. Amazingly smooth engine after the GS, but felt tiny - needs a small screen too!

Plenty of power when you're in the right gear/rpm but zero torque when you're not!

I've had 220 miles out of the CB400, 18 litre tank. 200 miles on about 16.5 litres for me normally.

Just went out for a short ride to fuel up, still waiting for some textile trousers to arrive so braved it in jeans (don't normally ride without the full gear on), still had my hein gericke jacket and gloves from back in the day

Your right , low revs/speed there is no torque, but open the throttle and bloody hell.

First time I've ridden in 6 years , used to have a 600 bandit restricted so this feels a lot different!

I love the seating position, perfect for me. The sv650s was another bike I was looking at.

They have a 17l tank

I may be wrong, could be 120 miles, il soon let you know :)

I believe the hornet uses an old detuned cbr600 engine, correct ?

Same engine, different ignition timings and smaller carbs and air box is the only real difference. You should be seing 150-160 miles from your hornet easily without being conservative. Bimble around at 5k and there is nothing but wait for the 7k power band...

My cbr with same engine, same dize tank, fully jetted with advanced ignition used to get around 130-140 when ragging the hell out of her. Most i got was 173 and that involved a fair bit of motorway cruising.

Im lucky to see 90 miles to a tank nowadays my best so far being 35mpg

nice smart sensible machine !! enjoy and be careful on it

I agree with sagalout and grab me a screen for it

Mine would do 120-130 per tank quite easily.

Good choice btw, same year as mine as well :D
