I now feel privileged :)

Just had a phone call from some guy that wanted to warn me that my PC has been flagged by MS as having become infected by malware and that "it is very bad" (best Indian call centre accent please people)

Straight from the off I knew what it was but I had 20 mins to kill before going out so I thought what the hell.

He asked me to press Windows+R to get the RUN box up and enter eventvwr. Once in, he asked me to see if I had any errors or warning which everyone generally has.

He started gibbering some crap so I got bored and hung up. 2 mins later he calls back asking

Scammer - "why you hang up phone?"

Me - "you were boring me"

S - "this is very serious and you have big problem and you lose PC in couple days"

Me - "listen I have to go out, I know this is a scam anyway but I was bored and wanted to see what pish you would say"

S - <click>

:D

I had a quick look online and found that the next step would be for me to visit some site then download and install some program which is really a backdoor trojan.

It was my very first scam (over and above the phishing emails I get from my "bank") so I feel all warm and fuzzy now :D

My reply to these indian people is **** off, then put phone down. If they call back...oh dear :D they're going to learn English words they never even knew.

I only have a mobile, and wondered if these guys ring mobile numbers too or if it's just landlines? I get the usual PPI texts all of the time though, even though my number is on TPS.

Had a couple of these in the past, the last time they called there were 7 PC's in the house (3 working desktops, 2 broken desktops and 2 laptops), it is fun to get them to try and guess to which PC has the 'problem'.

They have rang my parents too, my Dad just says I will put you through to our IT department which usually makes them hang up, if not start the clock on how long you can keep them hold for haha.

I've had this one a few times. Caught me off guard at first but once he started going on about charging me for sorting it out it twigged that it was a scam and he just told him to do one. Theyve called back probably 4-5 more times and I just hang up. But the fact of the matter is that telecoms companies should be blocking these people straight away, as there are people getting tricked by these practices :S

i feeking love these i haven't had one myself for a while but i like to try and lead them on as much as possible let them think that they have scored and then just tell them im not interested!

I knew about the error log but didn't know the 'quick' way to get it

turns out my pc isn't running as perfectly as a thought :D
