So after moaning about a new car for about 2 years finally got my hands on one!

Ok so to tackle the elephant in the room... yes I got it from a dealer new. Why would I do such a thing? Well, a few reasons:
1) Wanted to trade in my car with zero hassle / come back. I know the car was starting to have some trouble, and had a few bad paint chips, no air con, clutch starting to go etc so would have been a pain to shift.
2) The car I wanted has only been out since 2011 and the second hand market was near to no difference to what I could get for new.
3) Warranty for 3 years, free servicing for 3 years, free assistance for 3 years... all adds up!

So what did I get? Citroen DS3 Dsport Plus. Its the THP155 model, 1.6 with a 6 speed gearbox

No optional extras (as the most popular ones from the past few years have been included as standard).
Air conditioning
leather seats
parking sensors
auto headlights / wipers
upgraded stereo (inc usb / phone jack)
17" alloys
tinted windows
chrome wing mirrors / side strip
carbon fibre dash
Gear Suggestion
etc

The cost? List price was £18.7k but I got it for £14k + my focus (probably worth £1k, very tops!)

Now I know for that sort of money I could have got many other 'better' cars, second hand BMW / RX8 / 350z etc. I like to drive - but I wouldn't consider myself a car enthusiast, and wouldn't like the costs that are associated with them... The main reasons for picking the car were relative performance, looks and cost. I really liked the looks of the inside and out, it provided me with a nice power increase over my focus while also improving the MPG while also only impacting other costs slightly (insurance up £100, tax down £50 etc).

First impressions? Great... Really like the car. The cabin is a nice place to be, seats are comfortable yet supportive and the driving position is nice (feels higher than the focus but not top heavy). The ride is firm but not over firm like a clio (imo). Steering is a little light but I'm sure I'll get used to it. As for power - 58% power increase over my focus so it feels like lightening! :)

I'll update this thread when I've had a bit more time to drive it :)

Nice car, looks very different in black than the brightly coloured DS3's I have seen on the road. No doubt people will pick apart your purchase but the main thing is that you are happy with it :)

Enjoy!

Excellent car, I have only driven the DS3 sport diesel but the petrol is supposed to be the best. Personally would have got it in yellow 8)

I like these a lot. Not sure i would spend 15k on one (well, maybe on the DS3 racing) but i do like them.

I really like the look of the DS3's. Look like a really cool car to pop around in.

Enjoy the purchase, main thing is your happy. Don't listen to the grumpy men in here who think Mondeo's or BMW's are only allowed.

i really like these too for a french car, they have really upped their game, and at the end of the day, it's your car, it's your choice if you want to buy new, i know i would if i could afford to :)

Looks nice in black.
Do they not do a faster one?
They do the racing version, which is ~200bhp, but the cost is a lot more (~23k iirc).

£18.7k is a lot and if thats what I had to pay I wouldn't have got it. But by the same reckoning a fiesta zetec s is 14/15k depending on spec... price is there to be haggled :)

Just me that thinks 18.7k is an awful lot for a small Citroen hatchback?

Think he said it worked out at 15k, still an awful lot of money to part with for a small 1.6 hatchback.

But where would we be if nobody bought new cars in the first place?

Nice car. I Would have gone for a better paint/interior combination rather than funeral black everywhere. I would have also opted for a sunroof. In before the "he has aircon" brigade.

For me buying new makes sense when the difference between the new car price and second hand market is very small.

Did you get cruise control?

Yeah it comes with cruise control. I'm 90% sure there isn't an option for sunroof.

The colour is a personal pref - you should see my wardrobe! It's pearlescent so looks even better with the sun shining off it.

Bird opposite has one and it is a very smart car. (She looks epic washing it in her bikini too, even my wife refers to her as 'bikini carwash' - you can't not look.)

Always liked the look of the DS3, especially the interior.

How can you post something like this without accompanying pictures
