Hi all,

Been looking to pull the plug for a while and thought id treat myself to an early Christmas present.

Current spec is
Intel Q6600
Asus P5QL pro
8 gb ddr2
M4 SSD

Looking at getting new CPU, motherboard and memory. I dont play games on my PC, its all image editing, video encoding and huge excel docs for work.

So far I have got it narrowed down to this;

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-391-GI

TeamGroup Elite 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-019-TG

I was all set to get this CPU

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)

but then saw this for a bit more

Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

Is the i7 worth the extra outlay?

Only if you need heavy CPU processing power.

The difference in games between i5 and i7 is minimal, better off spending the extra on the graphics card instead.

I recently did the same upgrade as you, love my new system, but the Q6600 is a great CPU. Hoping this new system will last me 3 years like my last one did.

I'd do a search on the internet for comparative reviews, then decide if the increase is worth it.

If it's encoding 24/7, then I'd strongly consider the i7. Depends what kind of program it is though
