Well, so far we have spent about a year renovating the house. A couple of weeks ago we moved into the lounge. Totally gutted it, and this is how it is tonight. Speaker cables, cat6, hdmi, sub interconnect, all run. Slowly, ever so slowly getting there.

Up in the pelmet at the front is a 2.2m projector screen (yet to be covered in with a blanking plate and a slot to let it come down through). Stuff to buy, damn it is going to be an expensive couple of weeks....

Pansonic Pt-AE1000 or Epson EMP-TW1000
Onkyo TX-SR805 or Yamaha RX-V2700
Speakers, sub etc
LCD or plasma tv (42" or bigger)
PS3 perhaps for blue ray

Cant wait :)

Anyone got any adivce on speakers? I was looking at the yamaha 325 pmd range. Also, any adivce on the kit in the list?

Cheers,

Richie.

Looks lurvley, but im being distracted by the blue glow :D

Can't wait to see when it's finished.

Why have you specifically shortlisted those two models of projector? :o

The Sony Pearl might be worth looking at as Sony are bringing in a new model and thus it's discounted a bit. There's also the JVC one that's been causing quite a stir.

Does your lounge have any windows?

HEADRAT

yep :)

This is what is was like after the front extension had been added, before the room had anything done to it. Using my bro's wider angle lense.

Good question. I have been looking at the pano for months and months, and recently noticed a review of both the pano and the epson over on avforums.

The epson gets a slightly better review (better blacks) and is a fair wack cheaper too. I want 1920x1080 native res, quiet, decent blacks, bright (although both arent that bright), hdmi etc. Budget for the proj is no more than £2500. I'll do another couple of hours research closer to the time of purchase and will look into the others. I think the jvc (DLA-HD1??) and the pearl are over budget at the mo.

That looks great dude well done. I hope that you have a great time watching movies in the room because thats what its all about at the end of the day.

And the award for understatement of the year goes to... :D

Looks like you're more than doubling the capacity of the building... Eep, is all I can say :)

My God ! it looks like you live in Akbars Indian Restaurant in York !
Keep up the good work the Chicken Jalfazi is to die for ! and your Family nans are MMmmmmmm

Are those neons in the pelmet or gelled strip lights? Of course they could be something tasty from pulsar but I doubt you'd spend daft amounts on colour changers.

It is just 20m of blue rope led. I looked at the rgb colour changing stuff, but was basically £40 vs £800.

I was thinking about running a red, green and a blue rope led up there and see how it worked.

Might be good if they are dimmable on a controller, but you won't really have any luck with mixing the colours (eg you wouldn't get white by turning them all on). Leave it at one colour.

another update !!

Well, in preparation of the onkyo tx-nr905 av amp and the panasonic ptae1000e projector that are both on order, I picked up this very reasonable 42 inch Mirai lcd. I think it has great image quality vs cost, now that they have fixed the 1080p blur problem. I've been looking at lcd's/plasmas last week in various shops here and just couldnt justify forking out crazy money for something that is likely to be used infrequently when the projector gets here.

Picked up a full set (7.2) of q-acoustics speakers and have 5.1 of them running on my old sony amp atm. They sound very nice.

Anyway, a pic or two...

Getting there, slowly :)

Pc is an old'ish p4 3gig, Windows Media Center with an ati xt800pe gfx card. Running media portal though at the mo. Seems to be coping with sd dvd's no probs. Yet to try out any hidef stuff on it.

Need to get a big rug for the middle of the room to try and dampen some of the sound though.

Richie.
