Finally took the plunge and signed up for Nildram

well if it's a torrent, you can grab utorrent and enable encryption. that'll get round pipex throttling for the time being. you'd be daft to think pipex won't clamp down on this little 'workaround' soon...... bit off topic for this thread though.... :D

I have U torrent now, how do I enable encryption?

Hold on I've done it! cracking speeds now.. 60k a sec and rising.

This isnt illegal is it? Pipex wont sue me or charge me more will they?

Nildram is very tempted but I suspect they'll be given the "Pipex touch" before too long (despite what people say). F2S users have been shafted by Pipex already.

Hopefully I'm wrong...

I hope we're both wrong too. But I do expect them to eventually introduce throttling or shape some sort of bandwidth management regarding downloads in the future. I think ISPs should consider introducing a lot more packages to choose from. Because with the increase in speed to 8Mb across the UK, traffic is naturally going to rise with it. At least Nildram are very honest and upfront with their customers regarding peak and off peak bandwidth limits. I read about the Pipex port throttling here, I didn't get an email from them, they didn't advertise on their site, but sneakily put it in their Terms and Conditions and didn't quote these new rules unless specifically asked about it.

I was just about to sign up to Nildram for the £25.99 a month package but when I phoned BT for my MAC code they said they'd match Nildram but only charge me £23.99 a month :D

What are the specs you receive at the minute from BT? Are you capped, etc? :)

*chants "Go to Nildram, go to Nildram ;)

Not too sure on the full spec as its my parents line but they basically just said make broadband cheaper to me. My current BT setup is 20gb cap and 2mb a month, which is about £26.99 a month, the discount they've given me keeps the 20gb gap but gives me max dsl, which in my area at the moment is around 5.5mb (this is what nildram would give me too) so it's pretty much the same as nildram but £2 a month cheaper than them, just don't have the 50gb cap but I've never managed to use the 20gb cap up either though.

Bah, Thread derailers! :p ;)

I should have been migrated by now shouldn't I?

It's been 9 days (10 if you include Sunday @ 8PM) :(

Nildram will email you a pdf file with your account details the day before they switch you over. :)

Hi,

Did any of you consider Evolution or Eclipse? Did you consider any other providers?

What finally made you choose Nildram?

Thanks,

If you can sell me those too provdiers I'd be happy to consider them. Only reason I might go for Nildram is they are cheaper - dont cap speeds for p2p and seem more open than pipex.

Must say I just had a look at that Evolutiondsl and it looks fantastic. Up to 8meg uncapped...

# Max. 8192kbps download, up to 448kbps upload
# Unlimited download allowance
# Contract period just one month
# 20 POP3 accounts, 50 email addresses
# 50Mb webspace
# Connection: £45.00+VAT
# Monthly Cost: £24.99

Whats the catch here?

From EvolutionDSL 's FAQ
Are you really offering an unlimited service?
Yes, totally unlimited, upstream and downstream. Our network has no P2P throttling, hidden caches or bandwidth limiting. We have no plans to change this!

Also from there about us page
Remember, unlike most ISPs, and what makes Evolution Broadband so attractive to professional Internet users is that we introduce no port blocking, bandwidth throttling, or traffic shaping at any point in our network. This includes both P2P (peer to peer) and client-server connections.

looks like the is another contender in the running for good net access. the only problem i can see is that i cannot find a single review of there service anyware!!!

I have been with Nildram for about 6 years now (might be a bit longer actually) and must say they are brilliant. Only had one or 2 very small problems in all that time and they have been instantly sorted by the very competent Tech Support team. I’m only on the 1mb connection as my crappy phone line/exchange can’t handle higher speeds. I did get a free speed upgrade to 2.5mb but had to get them to turn it back down again because of packet lose (my phone lines fault not nildrams). Only reason I would think about leaving them at the moment is that I want a faster connection but don’t think I can go with ADSL due to the above problems, not really sure what a good alternative would be though.
