I'm back baby!
Requirements:

1. Looks. No Fiat Coupes or Alfas.
2. Must have an opening roof. Not averse to T-bar, but more than a sunroof and not one of those gay rubber folding thingies that corsatina up at the back of the roof.
3. Value/cost. If I get this car my Clio will go but i'll also want some cash towards a bike and passing the bike licence. The value bit also means I wouldn't want it breaking every two mins.

Preferences:

1. Speed. Would like it to be pretty quick and a lot of fun, but the speed kicks would come from the motorbike.
2. RWD. Its a preference but not a necessity.

I know the most obvious choice. What else is there? I've looked at old BMs and old Golf GTIs and they're not bad. I tried looking for old Audis but they're pretty much impossible to find. Thoughts?

I've thought about it long and hard, and the MX5 simply won't suit me.

I'll have any monies from the sale of my Clio plus a bit more, but that includes buying a bike, so I'm looking at ~4k for the car.

Can't see anything there that rules out a mk1 MR2 so I'll pimp it :p Although for your budget you'd be able to get a mk2 turbo if power is your thing.

MR2 Turbo. I'm not sure how rare the T-Bar versions are though?

Also would having two seats be a major problem? Otherwise I think you'd like it and I'm sure you mentioned it at a Manchester meet...

S14A 200SX would be another choice.

Can't really think of others.

A mate has recently bagged an R reg E36 328ci, and it's quite tidy indeed. Was up at £4,250, he paid £3,750. 193bhp, 0-60 in 7.1, 147mph. With the E36 M3 wheels, you'll see that E36's can still carry a bit of panache.

200sx S14a, if you ignore the rear.
How much are we talking for a mint example?

I didn't know there was a t-bar edition :o

Wow, nice price! Not much slower than the Clio either.

For value m8 you can't beat the MR2 Turbo and you'll get a mint one for not much money

T-Bar too

Si
I think its going to have to be non-turbo due to insurance. Down to 2 years this time round :(

This is going to be very hard - convertibles hold their value extremely well so you will find it hard to get anything which isn't really old for this money.

Something like an MX5 or an MR2 is perhaps the only sensible solution - you could get a 306 Cabrio but it will a) break and b) isnt fast.

The car choices I would have stated are all up there really.

What bike choices are you looking at though? Want a race to DAS?

if you get one with the M3 kit on it (a lot of those about) it will look exactly like my old M3 bar the ACS wheels

I would plump for an early e36 328 as these had limited slip difs which were later removed and replaced with Traction Control as BMW though that with a LSD it became a cheap M3 and threatened sales.

I do have a 2001 gsxr600 in white and blue that I don't need anymore though ;)

Yeah, I think thats my problem. I might have to admit its a pipe dream in the end and get something boring along with the bike. I just want to make sure there's no other options before writing anything off :)

[edit]Nope, sunroof and gay folding opening roof that isn't a cabrio isn't enough :)

I would really suggest you go and test drive an MX5 just so you can make sure whether you like it or not.
I've driven one, and been taken out in one. They're decent cars and I have nothing particular against them.

They just really don't suit me.

Ahh ok then. :)

200SX then in my opinion.
